That's a lot of money for a faulty part on Toyota's end. Is there any preventive maintenance you can do to prevent pump failures? For instance like taking it off and cleaning it every now and then? Mines still under warranty but I fear someday this expensive repair will come along and by then my warranty will be out.

A faulty part? You cats are going to go out some day and if your from New England it'll rust off within a few years, way more money, doesn't mean they're faulty. Every part on your truck is going to fail some day.

Order the bypass kit, then you'll never have the problem again. http://hewitt-tech.com/store/

edit: Some people have had issues with this kit and the guy seems a little shady. Might be worth looking at other options if you can find them.

Heck yeah faulty part, when trucks are having this issue into the lower mileage range I consider that an issue. Understandable that yes most things will all fail but below 50k in todays world for a part to fail seems like an issue to me. I think the Tundra's got the warranty enhancement because it happened to a wider year range. On the tacos it seems like just 2012's since Toyota realized they had a faulty part and resolved it in 2013-up models, one model year of a truck they just are not going to care about that consumer.

I really considered this... but after reading the thread on the product I was really turned off by how many problems people were having and how the guy who makes them doesn't seem to want to help his customers out....

There is another entire post on here with 34 pages of people having this issue, most are 2012 models but some of the newer models are having the issue as well. I have a 2012 with 61000 km (38000 miles) and I had the exact same thing happen last week, secondary's air injector valve is stuck open, p2442 code. The truck is at the dealership awaiting the parts to come in. $1500.00 + tax so $1725.00 out the door. Oh and the new parts to fix it are the same shit parts so it is just a matter of time before it happens again.....

How are u going tell people not to worry about a crap part Toyota made, fixes on other vehicles, but tell probably the most loyal Toyota owners to basically go fuck them selves?

I'm going to say that this is a pretty shitty analogy.... a cat failing due to being in a super salty environment is hardly the same as an emissions pump sucking in a $5 foam filter which then fries your valves rendering the truck pretty much inoperable.... failed cat and no money = cut that shit off and fix it when u have a. The time b. The money or c. Both. Toyota just needs to nut up and do right for "THEIR" engineers mistake

If I ever see one with foam stuck in it I will completely agree with you, I see nothing but rust.
