My o2 sensor is saying NOT ready the back one closest to exhaust manifold..Tried the resistor hack online but only make my Check engine light go on..I went to all the recycling centers I have in area and although the sensors they had LOOK the same the outer shape of plastic casing has different config of nubs. I have one notch and the ones I'm trying to buy at recycling centers had 2 notches in same place...What can I do to fix it and make it pass smog with buying a new o2 sensor..and why does every other 2004 v6 toy Tacoma have different notch setup

Pin config EXACTLY alike....... if I took off notches they would fit fine
here is pic of my plastic clip attacked to my sensor closest to the exhaust manifold

Some say to dive it for HOURS AND HOURS...but I don't have that time...Would a new sensor make a difference...this one doesn't say bad..it says not ready.
Tried hack HERE where ya detach blue and white and attack a resistor and capacitor..only made check engine light go on...Put back regular no check engine light..BUT doesn't ever show ready...

Some states don't need all the monitors ready to pass the test. You didn't say what state you're in.

Changing the sensor or hacking it won't make the monitor be ready any sooner. You still need to drive under certain conditions to make it ready. There was a technical service bulletin for older Toyotas 96-02 explaining some sets of conditions that you need to ready the monitor, for example, something like drive between 35-45 MPH for 7 minutes continuously without stopping with engine warm. You can try what it says in that older bulletin, or maybe someone knows the conditions for the 2004 model. That bulletin was from 2002, so maybe it still applies to 2004 models.

    Maybe this.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. You could try sanding down the notches but that's the only suggestion I have as opposed to just buying a new sensor.

as stated above... certain model years of vehicles WILL be "smogable" with a certain number of readiness monitors NOT ready. The toughest one is the evap monitor. All of the vehicles I have worked on mandate that he fuel tank be between 1/4 and 3/4 full or this monitor WILL NOT RUN. As to getting your O2 sensor monitor to run you are just going to have to drive it. If you dont have access to a OBDII scanner stop by an Oreillys, AutoZone and see if they would be kind enough to check the smog "readiness".
Never having a vehicle that wasnt ready for smoging I am not sure if you are just told to go away and come back by the smog guy. I guess at that point you pay your registration and get the notice of incomplete registration from the state and hope.

Exactly what Ive done Ive gotten it registered and cant get it completed because of non readiness of sensor. I don't get it I have driven it for 80 frigging miles and STILL not ready. every other one fine and ready but O2 next to exhaust

ANY CHANCE that because it came from Colorado it never got made ready for California Emissions? through Carmax

Curious if just driving it is the prob or if I need to following a stringent activation process?> I HAVE NEVER had this prob and owned toys my whole life

I did a little reading andn hopefuly this will help. this is for a 2003 V6 Tacoma... it just might be as simple as a bad connection for the heater circuit for the O2 sensor. there are fuses but according to the wiring if those fuses are blown she wont run at all. I did read somewhere if the resisitance in the o2 sensor is not correct it will not allow that monitor to start. At this point if the sensor is cheap enough you just might have to "test" it that way.

If you talking about 1 mega ohm resistor and 1 farad capacitor and after 30 different designs and pictures i found end of thread and exactly how that is put together. If i had an oit ofnstate mail box they sell those already made for 70 buck something you clip that i believe someone took apart and that is the resistor and capacitor thing.
Thing that only works if it shows ready but is broken...that will work HYPOTHETICALLY...Mine wasnt showing ready
Tomorrow before i go buy sensor imm go make the EXACT design thingy i saw that lets it READ passing..and now it might work because after all the times intook it in and oit and cleaned it...it reads broken now

So resistor and capacitor in theory should work

I shall let ya know tomorrow
