New to the forum, so here goes my first "dumb' question. I first tried the search function but did not find an answer for this. Did removing the front air dam have any negative effects? Handling, fuel mileage, etc.. I know its done for looks mostly, just curious!

I doubt it would affect handling. I am sure some cone head found out that it improved gas mileage by 1 mpg.

Couldn't tell you if it affects MPG, ripped it off same day I bought truck. Truck handles fine, can't see a piece of plastic affecting handling.

It did affect my mpg .5-1.0 loss. Bottom line it was ugly to me and affected ground clearances , approach and departure angles. I removed mine within the first week. Going steel bumper anyways in a few weeks

I did this on my long bed sport, definitely decrease in mpg, and howling from lcas(due to crosswind)
    Just my experience

This is why I haven't taken it off yet. Did it get noticeably louder then?

Yes it did, you'll hear a humm at around 30-40mph.
Ill be ordering lca plugs to remedy the issue

I would love more information about the airdam... specifically the point it isn't effective. Sometimes I feel like I'm pushing tons of wind.

I recently took mine off after I installed the Pro skid plate - Maybe -1 Mpg... seems like it has better aero with it at higher speeds - 80+ mph

This is my dilemma... I drive 75mph on the highway, and more often than not I'm going into a 20mph headwind. In those instances I'm only making 15mpg and the truck feels sluggish.

It's ugly... it does nothing other than make the truck look more like a Ford or a Chevy.

Did I mention its ugly and has ZERO Bro factor.... actually has negative bro... so do what you're supposed to do and be a bro for a few minutes, and take it off. Problem solved. Thank me very much..

I will give you my perspective from my experience with my 2017 Sport. I like the looks of it off better, mileage is not really a concern of mine. However, here is why I still have mine on. I took mine off, and found that I had more cabin noise which I suspect is from the additional turbulent air that goes under the truck. The chin spoiler diverts air down and around the tires. It is not just a Toyota thing guys. Look at most ALL new vehicles, they have them. There are aerodynamic properties it provides and engineering dollars are spent. The Sport, SR5, Etc. are mainly intended for the road and highway use so these design attributes contribute for a quieter and more efficient ride.

The truck will feel sluggish regardless of chinstrap at that speed and headwind. Minivan motor! :D

Removing the air dam isn't going to help. Just the way the truck is. I lose 1 MPG for every 5mph over 60 (or every 5mph headwind). I find its not possible to achieve the hwy MPG over 65mph. These trucks aren't as aerodynamically tuned as a car or even a Colorado (which only has about 4-5" under the air dam).

A Tonneau helps a bit. Lowering would help more. Otherwise things get ugly fast when you start adding wheel skirts or any number of other "ecomodder" solutions.
