    For what it's worth..........

I'm not arguing that drums are superior to discs. Although in a rear application in a truck, it doesn't matter too much, regarding actual stopping power.

OTOH, discs are certainly easier to service in 'most' cases. Some are actually a bit tricky themselves. Ones that have hat in rotor drum ebrakes, but disc wheel brakes for example.

Anyway, point is, it's very unlikely that the time, effort and $ to upgrade to rear discs on the average Tacoma is worthwhile. There are exceptions to everything.

But most Tacomas are driven by what I'll call soccer dads. The ones that want to laugh at the soccer mom. Yet most of them could live their life with a Corolla and a utility trailer to haul the occasional bag of mulch or 10.

If you are crazy about high tech, leather, cupholders, LED lighting and level lifts and you worry about bedlining your composite bed, you might be a soccer dad.

Preach on and could not agree more. a lot of it for me was after all the time and money will I gain any benefit? Will I have more issues down the road? Rigs are beat to hell all the time and still have drum brakes.

I drive a lot in mine, 2010 w 127k miles. I pull a camper occasionally, kill game and throw it in the back, drive around hunting camp In North Florida mud and take long road trips for deer hunting trips.

So no soccer dad here but yeah do think the brakes are lacking

I have decided that it will be front rotors, new pads and steel lines. Should help

ah yes, the prerunner only has a vacuum assisted brake booster, vs the 4x4's electric boosted master cylinder. the later has 2x line pressure at the same pedal pressure and less line length / no separate ABS unit to go through.

This is a pretty well documented upgrade. You can use the calipers and rotors from a GX470 or V8 4Runner. Identical caliper, just longer "ears" for the mounting so you can use a larger disk with increased swept area.

    Rear disks FTW!

Better for heavier than stock trucks, and trucks which tow a lots.
