if someone really wants your tire, they will get it. it takes abotu the same effort to cut a lock as it does to get it from underneath the truck, even if you have the spare tire lock thing from toyota

My spare tire was held in by a ratchet strap for a year. If somebody wants it, they're gonna get it. Even if it's held on by a thin wire underneath your truck?

    Duplicolor makes fucking everything.:)

I'm making a high clearance rear plate bumper. It should improve my departure angle quite a bit. The spare tire is going to be my new low point. I've been thinking about what to do with the spare. I'm not in love with the bed mounted tires but I don't see too many other options. I already have a double cab short bed that is easily overfilled with bicycles or camping gear. I guess roof racks for storage will be the following step.

Oh, the death spiral of modifications.

If people want anything bad enough, they'll take it. That said, my "bike lock" is gauged and takes some heavy duty bolt cutters... which is not an every day item thieves carry.

My solution was outfit the truck for camping and light wheeling. Lots of organized storage, bed cage w/ RTT, that kinda stuff. Heavy duty hitch mounted bike platform, fabbed if necessary for a little extra clearance. Park, set up camp, off load bike. More than one bike, get a trailer.

I was thinking about modding the spare tire into a new steering wheel. Can't for the life of me figure out how to mount the air bag in it though.

i agree that your tire is very safe, but a friend of mine lost the keys to a lock of that calibur and my 18volt handheld grinder with a cuttof disk went through it in about 5 seconds. they are extremely loud though, which is why even with the right tools, it is still hard to get away with somethign like that...so those concerned with the tire being stolen....yes, possible...but unlikely.

Funny you say that. I was kinda thinking the same thing. The spare is full of air. As long as I don't hit the rim, I'm all good.

Riverside huh? I was born and raised there. Moved away about five years ago at the ripe old age of 30.

Wow, sure are a bunch o Zonies on this forum . . . I like the easy access of the bed mounts but I also like the bed space too. Back when the roads weren't as maintained I was changing flats pretty much every other day or so, sure gets old in the 120 F heat, I usually had spares just strapped in the back and carried two "justin case".

You zonies ever worry about the warn AZ sunshine rotting out the tire rubber and or straps?
