Used up my free oil changes

I've used up my free oil changes so i'll be changing the oil first time on this truck myself.
I've got the OEM filter already.
The owners manual just says use Genuine Toyota or equivalent oil, doesn't say anything about synthetic.
I checked at the local Pep Boys saw Valvoline Premium Conventional 5W30 or ProLine Full Synthetic 5W30 for nearly the same price. $5.49.
Why is this Proline so cheap compared to other synthetics? Any opinions on this cheaper brand synthetic?

 

No idea but mobil1 is usually around $26 for a 5 quart jug at Walmart. The auto part chain stores around here are typically $10 higher than that.

 

That's where I get it. The price of one single quart ruins the deal so I'll buy two jugs if I don't have any extra at home.

 

Same here and the rebate is running now. Not sure if they accept Walmart receipts, they're not on the list.

 

Wal-Mart receipts are accepted for rebate.

Go online and find what auto part stores have on sale. Any synthetic will do just fine.

 

Go to wal-mart; Mobil One 5w-30 or any brand you like; I usually go for whichever is cheaper between Mobil One and Castrol_ I've only used synthetics ever since I ran out of Oil Changes at the dealership. Been good so far and the oil is much cleaner at the 5,000 mile oil change compare to the Conventional motor oil.

Anyhow I recommend you double check when you are about to drain the Oil from the oil pan that you've removed the correct Drain PLUG** lol reason why I say this is because so many people have drained their Transmission Fluids instead because the transmission pan is right near the oil pan and the oil pan is kinda hidden up there compare to the transmission pan which is right in your face. Always double/triple check you got the correct drain plug before loosening it. I have been doing my own oil changes and at times would go straight for the Transmission pan plug then realize its not the right plug.

You may however look into changing out your Differential fluids too; I changed my Front/Rear & Transfer case fluids at 20k miles. Both front and rear were BLACK! and my rear was missing 1 quart of fluid, so much for the dealership to say they've checked my fluid levels every time, that's a big lie because if they did, they would've notice I was missing 1 quart of gear fluid in the rear from the factory. The transfer case was still nice and golden, but I changed it anyways. Went with Amsoil Severe Gear fluid

75w-90 in Front/Rear and Transfer case, good stuff, feels so much smoother after the change.

I buy my oil at Wal-Mart also, hate the place but they are much cheaper than auto parts stores.
I run either Mobil 1 or Penzoil HM full synthetic but really any name brand oil with an OEM filter will do. The trick is to stick to the recommended interval.
