I apologize if there are threads on this, I searched the site and google and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Anyway, I want to install a Ram Mount but I am looking for a solution to keep it down out of view. I was looking for some idea of mounting it down under the head unit, closer to the center console. The school I teach at isn't in the best of neighborhoods and I have had cars broken in to over the years.

I used to have a GPS mounted on the A-pillar in my last car and even though I brought it in with me every day, someone broke in and just stole the mount. So that's why I'd like to mount it lower, just out of site for passer-bys.

Some one help me out with the appeal of the RAM mount.

Is this like a standard mount for cell phone cradles, ipads and stuff?

I searched on Amazon a bit, but didn't see anything that interesting.

I have a PanaVice http://www.panavise.com/index.html in my truck (Looks like their $32 now). Here's the installation pdf that shows it in place. http://www.panavise.com/pdf_indash/75137-905.pdf

Just mount a Ram ball or whatever type of mount/clip you want- mine has one of the square base Ram balls on it. I like it well enough as it's unobtrusive and out of the way; you can put a longer arm on it depending on where you want your item. Depending on the length of the arm it doesn't block my view of or accessing the heat/air system even when using an 8" tablet.

I use a ram mount / quad lock combination to be able to mount my phone in my vehicles... I'm gonna add another mount for my CB and maybe a mount for my wife's phone in the taco once I get Lostsheep's brackets... here's what I'm running now.

I installed a Tech Deck Extreme, small 'shelf' below the radio. Comes drilled w/3 ram mount spaces, 2 mounts max at the same time. Makes my 7" GPS infinitely adjustable, right below the dash line, out of the sun glare. Rock solid with the "extreme" stiffener epoxied inside the radio bezel.

Yeah, it's nice that it's standardized. It's easy to swap out e.g. an iPhone adapter for an Android one. Instead of swapping out the whole assembly, you just swap out one piece.
