Everything I seem to be passionate about won't put food on the table though, if I was going by passion I'd be a mechanic

 

Mechanics at dealerships with their respective ASE certifications can make into 6 figures. It's rough the first few years while you're still in apprentice mode, but there's money to be had. That's an in demand field right now too.

 

What do I need to study to be one?

 

To make that kind of money you need to attend (for instance) the Toyota T-Ten school (we have one in Bessemer), and get your ASE and Toyota technician certificates there.

 

Well I'm kinda already enrolled in auburn... anything I can do there?

 

Nope. Aside from just study and take your ASE tests and maybe do what I'm trying to do by getting a hands on automotive test, trials, tuning, race engineer gig.

 

How long is t-ten school

 

@h.zack801 I forgot to mention this but my best friend/roommate's dad's job is at aero tech and his job is to find people jobs there. Quite the connection

 

Two years. But you're working at a dealership that whole time too. And the program is focused on you staying in the Toyota dealership when you're done.

 

Well hook a brother up. I got two toyotas and happy to design everybody else's.

I'm sure that makes everybody in here real damn comfortable about buying any in the future.

 

By the way guys, update on my dad. His second culture report came back today and came back noncancerous, so that's great news

When i worked for toyota the diagnostic tec made the most money and wasnt flatrate. He brought in somewhere in the neighborhood of 80,000. But in escanaba mi thats the equivelent of like 150,000 down here. When i worked At ford the trans repair guy made 130,000. I made far less than this as i was young and just starting out. Im only saying in the automotive repair industry theres a ton of money to be made. You just have to put in the time and effort.

 

Oh and sometimes flat rate sucks lol.

 

Yep i have a good buddy that worked at the chevy dealership in Gunterville making all kinds of money and could work as much as his heart could stand. Ended up catching a guys attention one day and now is getting paid to work on helicopters on the arsenal making twice as much. He gets a new 2500 denali every year.

 

And i went from a flat rate tech at toyota to a repair tech paid hourly with amazing insurance at mercedes. And i got to say its a damn good gig.
