@Cold Iron - What is sporting clays like? I shoot trap, 20-21/ round and skeet, 16-18/ round. Does tbe skillset transfer or is it a whole new game. Will my 870 12 ga work?Maybe I will get on the 'puter and watch some videos.

If your shooting doubles in skeet with a pump yes you can use it in SC. I grew up with Ithaca 37's and an 870 and still take them out from time to time.

SC is more like hunting than trap or skeet. Trap and skeet are games into themselves, it is about not missing a bird. SC is about hitting the $%#$ damn thing! Trap and skeet you have seen every presentation and broken every bird at one time or another. SC maybe, maybe not. I shot registered trap with my son for about 5 years only because he loved it and excelled at it he was State Class runner up at age 15 with a 193x200. Me I am bored with trap by the third station and my mind wanders. Skeet is my mental masturbation it is about running straight after straight and if you miss in effect game is over. Like your scores show skeet is harder to learn than trap in the beginning. Sporting Clays is about having fun! Try having fun with a bunch of trap shooters on the line ;-)

It is often called golf with a shotgun, and I have done that too and can slice a golf ball with my shotgun just as well as I can with a driving iron LOL. So most courses will have a bunch of stations scattered over a large area. Shoot 5 birds at each station and each station will have 2 traps. And they all have different target presentations. While most are the type of targets you are used to they will have tricky angles and curves to them, on angle, on edge, black side facing you, anything to switch it up. Depending on how hard the trapper will set the course. And there are mini targets, rabbits, etc. First shot is normally a single bird and you get 2 shots at it, you know just in case you miss the first one :) Then a report pair they throw one bird and when you fire they throw the second bird. The true pair or doubles they both come out at the same time and you have to figure out which to take first, and where then move to the second. Most people starting out in SC 50% is not a bad average. Typical somewhat regular shooters 75% is about average. Above 80% is a pretty good shooter. But then again depends if the targets are set easy or not.

A pump will get you started but a semi like a Beretta 391 or 400 will get you more targets in the end. I and a lot of people use Over Unders mainly because of reloading. But anymore with the cost of components reloading for most gauges doesn't save you money like it once did. And semi gas guns will help take the recoil out of the gun. But when I hunt use pumps a lot and a few O\U's. With the O\U having 2 chokes can be a good thing for hunting and even clays. Open choke for the first shot and tighter for the second in case you m.. mi... mis... yeah that miss thing. I call it firing for effect when that happens. Good luck and try it, bet you have fun and like it!

Well, tonight's racing wasn't "all that". They ran a few heats and then the main. I wasn't expecting the Chili Bowl, but I did expect better racing and more of it. When they last ran the open wheel cars it was a different organization and, in my opinion, better racing. But tonight it was racing.

Since I don't know too much about this track, I do know it just changed management. And in talking to people that have been going there for years, it's better days are far behind us. I'm still going to be a good spectator, but I was expecting more for the money out of tonight.

    Good Morning.
Think the weather is finally going to break after a solid month of pizz-poor weather.
Trout season opens today, but i think i'll skip it.
4 inches of rain last couple of days make for sporty stream fishing. Trout probably got washed down to Long Island Sound anyways.

Was it CRA or SCRA Sprint cars ???

Local dirt track racing has changed a lot especially car counts , you just don't have the high car counts anymore . I remember back around 2005 we had enough cars for a A&B main now we're lucky to have 10 cars or just enough of a car count to make the track owner happy

Texas is a cookie cutter track just like Autoclub Fontana so with new pavement should see 200mph plus laps
