I just noticed the clamp on my cv boot is loose and flinging grease everywhere. So I need to replace it.

Due to my current living situation I can't pull the cv and repair correctly. I don't want to use a hose clamp because it'll probably cut into the boot and the huge screw bit will hit the control arm.

I checked Amazon and couldn't find anything. I've also heard some marine clamps that might work. But I don't know which and from where.

Does anyone know a place online I can order a clamp for this thing?

I can't remember if the factory style clamp ones will come apart so I can slip them over the boot and reassemble.

Nope. Truck has almost 8k. I wonder what they'd say if I brought it in for that and it has a long travel kit. :anonymous:

Are you sure it's the clamp and not the boot? a pipe/hose clamp, jubilee clip is the correct thing to use and will not break the rubber if tightned correctly and is the correct size. But the one that's on there can also be "tightened" with the correct tool. I've personally never seen the clamp fail it's always been the boot, but that doesn't mean the clamp's not the problem.

Fix it yourself, the dealership will say its lifted and that caused the issue. Then they will also have documentation on issues starting on your truck with the lift.

Unless you have a great service guy/gal...

A gear clamp should be fine?
Or you might be able to recrimp the toyota one tighter if you can slip it back in place.

The cv's were rebuilt about 1000 miles ago. I can't see anything wrong with the boot. But if I grab the boot I can rotate it. So I'm thinking it's the clamp. I have a tool to tighten but left it at home. That's a good point though. I should try reclamping first. o_O

    Maybe these? https://www.amazon.com/14-Stainless-Steel-Cable-Ties/dp/B006676E38

I have used them for other things and was surprised how strong they are. They're available in different lengths and they sell a tool for tightening them(I just used pliers). On a side note, I had the same problem with a cv boot on my 4Runner (it was the small side so it got a hose clamp). But anyway, I wanted to replace some of the lost grease so I got a syringe from the pharmacy (no needle of course) and stuck a piece or fish tank air tubing on the syringe. Filled the syringe with cv grease and was able to slip it in and fill the cv with new grease in before I put the clamp on.

What he said. Use this style and make sure to use the tool they recommend also.
    https://www.kartek.com/parts/7mm-cv-clamp-band-w-buckle-19-long-each.html
These were a solution when a customer had a leaky CV boot, but boot was know to still be serviceable, so these were used because of the infinite amount of adjustment to tighten them up. Get a few bands to try in case you don't get a feel for the first go around.
The tool I own isn't like the one recommended on their site , but does the same thing and made by KD tools I believe. You'll need a pair of dikes to cut the excess and then you can tuck the tail under the tabs.

This is the tool I own.
