Sorry for your problems and as you can guess the opinions vary from person to person, having said that...

you are not locked into any specific dealer for warranty repairs. It sounds like the first mechanic was just that, a mechanic, not a technition, there is a difference... to the mechanic: wash your hands, clean/change uniforms to get that 90W smell off of your clothes, be a professional, it IS your job...

the rear end clunk could be as simple as getting the driveshafts lubed, assuming a 2 piece center support type drive shaft here. It goes like this, from a stop when you accelerate the rear end rotates up, when you declerate it rotates down... that is just how it is. Everytime there is rotation in the rear end the rear driveshaft has to lenghten and shorten, this is done by splines in the driveshaft. If these splines are dry the driveshaft will not lenghten/shorten smoothly, it might hold the rear end in the down position when torque is removed from the drivetrain, like at a stop. When you apply torque the rear end will rotate through and lengthen the driveshaft and create a clunk. Should this happen on a new anything, no, but this is a mass produced product of many many pieces and mistakes can be made.

give her 10k miles to "break in", this will give the PCM's time to learn your driving habbits and let it "learn" how to idle. You are driving a big 4 wheeled computer that adapts to its enviornment.

I do have a question for any Toyota techs... on the bottom of his service ticket is shows ZZ time for running the TAS tool, is that additional flag time for how ever long it takes to run the vehicle through the factory diagnostics computer?

Why didn't you take pictures of all the gear oil spilled etc. That would be some good evidence of poor service.

As for the shifting, can't really tell if good or bad. It didn't look like it took that much effort to pull it out of first or for any gear because you are just using your thumb and index finger. I didn't see any ripping the gears.

All Tacoma are hard to shift into first it is pretty typical of the line. Manual transmissions are harder to shift when they are cold because the gear oil is thicker, which means the syncros are not yet matching the speed of the other gears.

The only thing I saw was it being hard to shift into second, that was the only time I saw your arm and hand actually look like there was stress. And I did here the rough engagement in to second.

The shaking of the gear shift was 1000000000000000000000000000000000% normal, they all do it.

The only thing I saw that was questionable was the shift at times into second. I thought your comment it just basically grinds, it doesn't grind but it might as well grind because it i so notchy. Was sort of contradictory.

So here is my take. Based on the first video, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the truck, the vibration of the stick shift, and the slight gear noise when in neutral was normal. Even you said it shifted fine.

The dealer somehow thinks the input shaft bearing is bad, I have had a bad one on a truck and you can hear it standing from afar, in your fist video you couldn't even hear it with the camera under the truck.

So they tear down the tranny and screw it up, guess what, Toyota is going to say, the dealer screwed your truck, its between you and them.

For what it is worth I had a tranny (not Toyota) rebuilt and 2nd gear was screwed up, and they had to fix it.

The reason the case manager asked if you wanted Toyota to buy back your truck, is so they would know your state of mind and how they needed to proceed on denying your claim. Not that she was offering to buy back your truck.

I really question the dealer for tearing into the transmission, did they get authorization from Toyota? Are you in Canada? or US.

I can't imagine Toyota authorizing a transmission rebuild on a new truck if they didn't believe there was an issue. And even if you don't believe there was a major issue before, he certainly has one now...

That's the point he has an issue now.

The fact of the shoddy work may mean the dealer just tore into his tranny for the warranty work. I mean with most dealers not wanting to check AT fluid and or rear end noise but tears into a transmission with almost no symptoms is a little suspect.

    Dealers are crooks at best.

I don't share opinion of dealers, so let's leave it at that.

Some of you guys must work for Toyota. LOL

I am not gonna fight anyone on here about this. I am just documenting my issue with this brand new truck so other consumers can be better educated with how Toyota responds to issues like this. Some of you guys question my driving, shifting, hearing normal noises and all that other good stuff. I am not even going to bother defending my self. I drive the truck everyday and deal with this issues since mile 6 when I picked it up. The ball is in Toyota's court now. They can fix it all they want, I will never be happy with a defective truck straight from factory at a full retail price. I bought a brand new TOYOTA truck from factory, not a manufacturer defect fixed by a NJ dealer that can't even keep the truck clean and smelling new for more than a week.

So I will just post the outcome and how Toyota takes care of a customer with a defective brand new vehicle to educate future potential customers. I believe Toyota will do the right thing, but I guess we will see.

It sounds like that lady from Toyota is having you get set up for some sort of Arbitration Hearing correct?

I don't know, it made me feel un-easy. Like she asking me the same question over and over. Are you sure you want Toyota to replace or buy back the vehicle? Can you confirm that? Are you still having issues? Do you still want to proceed?

    I am getting sued aren't I? LOL

It really sounds like an Arbitration thing is what she is doing, that is where they bring in some 3rd Party to evaluate it and you have to agree to accept the outcome, just be careful what kind of papers you are signing.

After reading through all 5 pages , all I can say is take this truck to a professional reputable transmission shop for a proper diagnostic .
I know its far too late now , but a good transmission technician can pinpoint what bearing is noisy and what bearing is not on a simple road test . Road tests are free and second opinions are worth their weight in gold .
From what I can see from the videos , Toyota is using a softer compound with their motor and transmission mounts causing some nasty shifter movement . A couple ratchet straps wrapped around the transmission under load should prove this theory from a diagnostic standpoint .

Defiantly something wrong. I flip my shifter withone finger all day long.

If shit turns south i always recommend emailing the toyota north america ceo.

Good luck. At this point a new transmission and a professional detailing are warrented

It sounds like you're done with this truck, but if not and you actually still want to try to fix it, the first thing that I would do is re-bleed the clutch. What you're experiencing right now sounds exactly like a clutch that isn't fully disengaging.

I just bled the clutch and it still won't come out of 1st gear and go into second without force on a cold tranny. I am starting to think they put the wrong gear oil in there. Isn't it supposed to be 75-90 for the transmission? On my service ticket they put in 80-90. Could this be the problem with the cold shifting? It still doesn't explain 4th gear issues when warmed up but its a start. Also I see that they used some red RTV sealer for the transmission. It is seeping already and the whole underside of the transmission is wet.

I spoke to 3 different CS agents.
My case was escalated to a CS manager.
My case was forwarded to a regional manager.
The regional office asked me for all of my documents.

They all watched my videos and read through the case#.

I got this in the mail today.

After over a fucking month of wasted time and aggravation. They have the balls to write "WE DO NOT BELIEVE YOUR VEHICLE SUFFERS FROM A DEFECT..."

How about not being able to shift safely in traffic on a cold transmission? How about not being able to shift into 3rd/4th gear while merging onto a highway at least once a day? It's a joke. The way I have been treated is inexcusable. I have to sleep on this and figure out my next move.

Sounds like that last part is them trying to send you to Arbitration.
