Yesterday I was shopping and a particular gun caught my eye. It was different from all the rest.

It was a Barret 98B and it was pure joy to handle. It's a sniper rifle capable of 4" grouping at 800 yards. The craftsmanship appeared to be remarkable. The bolt action was incredibly smooth. Trigger pull was exceptional. I love how the gun floats on the bipod. The .338 rounds were sold in boxes of 10 cartridges for $99.99 That's $10 a round!

I did some reading on how the gun was developed and it claims to be an original design. Click the gun image to visit Barretts site.

It'd sure be nice to find an extra ~$4,700 for xmas

Mr. Brown, That's funny you mention the .416. Apparently Chris Barret spent years developing the round. The more research that I do tells me that the .416 cartridge could be the most accurate long range bullet for "soft targets" on the planet.

Here is a video of the Barrett Model 99 .416 Barrett - Single shot, bolt action rifle from Discovery Military Channel TV. They are shooting targets at 2500 meters!

Barrett sells ammo. The retail cost of .416 ammo (80 round case) is $405 which comes out to about $5.06 per round.

If I had the funds, I think I'd go with the .416.

Thanks to everyone that commented in the thread.

always heard good things about barret but also had alot of problems with extrators on the m107 50cal that the army uses but this looks like a sick gun just more than i would pay to shoot paper targets unless u have plans of ur own lol
