I'm guessing that was the V6? I ask b/c I know the 4 cylinder (Iron Duke) they used in them were pretty reliable. My dad had a Citation up to 175K with that engine and I ran my Celebrity to 150-something with no issues.

Naw man, it's simple. Just a few bolts and them there electronic connectors.
I think it was easier pulling my 350 out of my jeep, then it was pulling the fuel injectors out of my 2.7 1st gen.

Corp won't let the dealership or mechanic make a decision, they go through field rep I am surprised they let them change oil by themselves. Side note just unhappy with my 2016 Tacoma, tired of hearing its normal referring to transmission clunk , flare and shuttering

so 1 truck (that i can see) had an engine problem out of how many sold. Doesn't matter what car brand or how much they cost, some have some bad apples. Nothing to worry about.

Terrible situation, but it does happen. Mass produced vehicles are going to experience the occasional defect.

I haven't read all of the responses, but I think Toyota should just swap in a new engine versus changing out the block only - a block will require a full disassembly and reassembly and probably take a week or more and countless hours by the tech (or they'd have to ship it out to be done), whereas they could just swap in a new crate engine from Toyota and probably knock it out in a couple of hours.

To be honest if this happened to me, I would be angry as well, but if I got a new engine and extended warranty, I'd feel somewhat better about it. Then after the dust settles, if I was still torn about the experience, I might consider trading it in.

When you order a dish at a restaurant and they fuck it up...do they replace your dish with a fresh newly made one or do they bring you back a half ass fixed plate?
    I'd be asking for a new truck too...2 weeks...sheeeeeeiiiit.

You probably don't want to know what they bring you back when you send something back to the kitchen.

You don't know exactly what they do when they work on your truck either.

    Moot point.

    Zach,

OP has never once said he was owed a new truck by Toyota. He's only said he "wants" a new truck, and in his shoes, I'd want one, too. Doesn't mean he's going to get one, doesn't mean Toyota is obligated to give him one, doesn't mean he's entitled to one. You're the one who keeps saying the OP feels entitled to a new truck, and I haven't seen the OP post anything that would reasonably lead to that conclusion.

I might want to schtup Jennifer Anniston, but that doesn't mean I think I'm entitled to.

If I was in his position (total failure of a primary component within a very short time frame after purchase) I'd be arguing with the GM for a replacement, not a repair. If it happens, great, but if they replace the engine they've met their legal obligation at the probable cost of losing his future business.

You must have missed the email conversations about his unhappiness with the dealer not wanting to give him a new truck, or him taking to twitter or the other comments. But myself and the others who commented similar could also be misinterpreting it. I also haven't seen OP come out and say much in regards to anything besides wanting a new truck. Either way I hope him the best, I've been there done that with my 16.

The most I would fight for is a crate engine (versus long block) with platinum warranty and a month off my payments...

I read the first eleven pages (as far as your post that I quoted), but I have not read all 16 pages.

P.S. Thank you for your service to our country.

P.S.S. - Largely unrelated anecdote. I once ordered a new '91 Mustang GT, broke it in precisely according to manufacturer recommendations, and at 41k miles it started burning large amounts of oil, so much so that the decision was made to replace the engine under warranty. Work was performed at the local dealer. Paperwork did not indicate if it was a long block or a full crate motor. Either way, it should have been plug and play. Reality was it was not the same as a factory install. Wire harnesses routed differently, looms not secured the same, etc. And although I kept the car another 50k miles, it was never quite right. I know, I know, quarter century ago, different manufacturer, has nothing to do with the OP and his Taco. But based on my experience, I do know that if my engine took a dump two weeks after purchase and the dealer said we'll toss a new one in there and it'll be as good as new, I'd be highly skeptical. Yes, they'd have met their legal obligation, but I think I'd still feel slighted. I suspect I'd be just like the OP, wanting to trade and feeling like they ought to give me full purchase price for my trade. Not a refund, not a free truck, but let me trade this one on another on your lot and give me full value on my trade. Just my $.02.

You could probably put a Texas built and a Baja built Tacoma same year next to each other and see that same stuff, so what´s the point here?

This is what I am not understanding. Why trade for a truck of the same model/manufacturer as the one the engine failed in. What makes you think getting a new truck of the same will solve anything, it could have its issues as well.
Now if OP was saying he does not want another Tacoma, that I would understand.

No thanks needed, my honor. But thank you. And agreed, I was in OPs situation with my differential and as I alluded to I let them replace it first time, 2nd time they gave me a free 125k/10yr platinum bumper to bumper warranty and refunded one month's payment, after that one failed the conclusion was to move to another truck, which I happily have no issues with. I feel for OP I do and I apologize if its a bit of my irritation with a world that seems to feel things are owed to them coming off on his post. I just feel that he needs to let them at least try to fix it first. I offered to for him to PM me on how to address Toyota customer service as well. 91 mustang, man those things were ugly ;) lol.

Would love a different brand at this point....personally I would want for around the same money maybe even 1k less I could get a V6 Frontier it rates higher than the 2016 Tacoma as J.D. Power doesnt have the 2017 rated yet.... it is an older but proven design but I have also personally purchased 4 other toyotas besides this one so I may mention that to customer service tomorrow as well...just to show I am loyal to the brand...Im not angry and slept good all weekend and will tonight but I will be firm with what I am looking for and see what they say....:stirthepot: :typing: at the very least I will ask for a months payment and warranty but none of those have been offered from anyone yet dealer or customer service....

I would be surprised if you can tell trucks built in different yota factories. They have every thing so a caveman could do it, yota set the standards on some of this done the same at the factory shit.

As for the OP wanting a new taco, that's just saying he believes this is just a fluke, if it's not, what's to say the engine won't shit the bed? All he is requesting is that it's put in at the factory.

Also some of the service advisors said man I would want a new truck without me saying anything to them about it and that this is rare and something they dont see much at all...Ive never had to replace an engine in any car ive owned and ive owned some turds on wheels such as a 1995 plymouth acclaim w a mitsubishi v6 mmmmm but it had ice cold air when I sold it....all of the service advisors and service manager have been nice and respectful so no problems there and I have been back to them....but again the service manager admitted it was a complex job and to expect to tighten and torque everything as if it came from the factory would be almost impossible to do....many cars dont need complex engine work for the life of ownership and ive found outside of routine maintaining of the car the less touched the better...

Not so sure about that, someone posted up an article about the 2 plants, Texas was Modern and full of Automation and the Plant in Mexico was mainly done by hand but are upgrading. It sounded kinda rough down there, it said they were forcing Cross-Training because fears of someone missing a day or 2 and afraid the replacement would not know what they were doing.
