From what I have seen, your truck might be able to hold its value a little longer if not slowly increase in price. I would see if you can hold out till the 18's and then see how those fair up. Don't get me wrong, Im a die hard second gener, but I know how it is when you see the truck you want and you are fighting to resist. Especially with third gens being the current model, you are bound to see more eye candy on the road as time goes on.

My only beef with my '13 is the crappy MPG...And the lack of a manual option for the DCLB...but that is the same for the gen 3 so...

My wife and I are Enthusiasts and we buy vehicles that move the soul instead of making safe logical decisions, and that is why we have a Speedway Blue 2008 TRD OR and now Inferno Orange 2016 TRD OR. And we won't talk about the motorcycles and sports cars that have come through my garage.

The good, the entire interior is an improvement over the second gen. 2GR Auto definitely gets better fuel mileage than the 1GR Auto. The bright colors are back if you are into that sort of thing, personally I'm a sucker for Blazing Blue Pearl. The new styling is good and not the usual Toyota bland. The frame is different and nets you a little bit of a lift over the 2nd gen trucks. On the towing package the connector now has both the 4 and 7 pin plugs so no more adapters. With my little work trailer, 1500lbs, it gets better mileage on the highway.

The not so good, the new motor has a very narrow powerband that is much higher in the RPM range and when paired with the tall 3.90 gearing of the automatic the truck struggles to hold speed in a light breeze or small hills without downshifting. The narrow powerband means there is a lot of shifting in big city traffic or on mountain roads. Continuing with the transmission, in the automatic it sometimes isn't sure what gear it's supposed to be in and there's a lag between reverse and forward, can't rock the auto back and forth if you get stuck.

There is a bright side, individuls who chose the manual transmission seem much happier with their purchase. The manual comes paired with a 4.30 rear end which delivers more off the line power, a higher RPM at higher speed for less shifting, and they get a sunglasses holder like the 2nd gen.
