Hi everyone-learning that rusted frames is a potential major-issue in buying a used Taco.

I was hoping you all could take a peek at these pics and let me know if you think this is a 'problem', or just a reasonable/normal amount of rust for an '07. No idea of where this thing has been driven, but its currently in Oregon.

    Thanks for your honest answers.

Looks like more than just surface rust. Also there are parts of the frame that you can't see unless you strip it down to the frame.

At least use it as leverage to get some $$$ off if you just have to have this truck.

It'll be interesting to see what others say.

Do you know if it has passed the recall frame inspection?
Also, I think it is apparent that the owner hasn't taken it into the dealership/stealership for the leaf spring recall either.
For the PNW or the Rocky Mtn states, this sort of rusting looks familiar...I own a 07 that was driven in UT. I drove it in UT, CO, and CA and my frame looks similar if not worse. I took mine in and it "passed" the inspection, I don't take them at their word for it but it is what it is.

One thing with this one as well to worry about is bootwear and drive shaft wear...
Salt is nasty and I imagine Oregon uses salt on their roads..don't know for sure though. If it was driven in UT then definitely exposed to salt.

Ask the owner to take it in and/or go into the dealer with him/her/it and make sure. Get documentation saying it passed the frame inspection and have the owner get the leaf springs replaced. Whether or not you end up buying it; it's a win win.

I agree. Looks like rust perforation through the steel to me. Not a great sign.

Just think of the extra work when wanting to upgrade or replace parts. that alone should make you try and find a rust free taco

Yeah I didn't like the looks of it either. I've asked him to take it to the dealer and he's agreed to do so.

BTW, Oregon generally doesn't use salt. It does use some magnesium chloride, which (I believe?) is relatively inert as far as steel goes. Though apparently there is talk of changing this policy after this amazingly nasty winter we've had: http://www.oregonlive.com/commuting/index.ssf/2016/12/in_policy_shift_odot_will_use.html
