I've had an all motor 3.4, a supercharged 3.4, an all motor 2.7, and now a turbo charged 2.7. They all got about the same gas mileage. The one that probably got the best repeatable gas mileage was the all motor 3.4L motor w/the supercharged 3.4 a very close 2nd place. To me, having a 2.7 for better mileage doesn't make sense. A 4wd model of the 2.7 (for me) gets the same gas mileage as the 3.4. It has the same oil capacity as well. All that while making almost 50 less hp. IMO, the only benefits of a 4cyl are timing chain vs timing belt, more room in the engine bay, less expensive to buy, and easier to turbo charge. Just my $.02

One of my workmates gets 5 better on the highway w/a 98 4 cyl on 27's. I've checked it.

if everything stays stock and P rated tires (which it appears he wants) it's easy to get over 20mpg on flat highway

I dunno. Whatever that combo came with. Has manual lock hubs though. Non TRD.

Just curious b/c that can make a difference in actual MPG. Tiny tires on a truck with out correction will make the Speedo and ODO spin faster making it appear to get better mpg. For example, when I first regeared to 4.88 and still had my 31's without any correction, I was getting 26mpg. Once i corrected the speedo with a dakota digital, it was more like 20-21 mpg.

it came with small tires. He gets what it says to get on the door jamb.

I really didn't want to go here. I get 17, he gets 22.

That makes sense. I was just wanted to know actual numbers. 22mpg is what I would expect. My original point was that simply that type of mileage can be achieved on a 3.4L as well with 4.10's and 31's while making more power.

Evidently not with me driving. I couldn't touch 22 all downhill.
that's with the above combo. And I sure don't feel much power.
His little (er) truck feels peppier than mine.

Maybe you need a tune up? I can hit 22 and I'm on 33"s.

This is exactly why I told him to look up all the other threads about mileage. laughs.

With my scanguage yes. I have a picture for proof too. I'm working off super slow internet though and it's taking forever to load. I'm not BSing though. I cruise downhills in neutral. Give me a minute or two to load the pic.

    Edit :

    I believe you.

    Doesn't help me.

I have no hills to coast down.

And you get honked at for going slow. (I don't particularly like to either) Sooooo, I drive the Chevy to conserve gas.

    Best I can do.

My previous truck was a S/C'd 3.4L with 31" Kelly TSR's and 4.10's. I got between 21-23 mpg depending on how much HWY driving I did. I would almost always get 300 miles to a tank

It reads a lot of things at 3k RPM lol. MPG wise I imagine it depends on what gear I'm in, wind level, etc.

    mileage.
    It's my hwy cruise, so 5th. @ 80

    That's just keeping with traffic.

    Some people haul ass.

But this is why I didn't want to go here....some people creep down the hwy. Some have lots of traffic and stop a lot on the hwy. Some keep it sane to avoid stopping and cruise 55.....see? Whole nother thread.

When I hit a hwy I get to speed and it stays there 'til I get to my destination....then I slow down to pull in their driveway.
    Mine's ALL highway...ALL highway speeds.
