My parking brake hasn't worked for some time and I have loosened the "levers" at the rear drums - so I presume the cables are seized. (2001 DBL cab 4x4 3.4L w/ 244K miles)
I want to fix this since the transmission pawls aren't designed to hold the vehicle, repeatedly, and I'd like to transfer this load to the brakes - as it was designed.
I did a search but didn't come up on anyone's write up on replacing the cables or the parts numbers needed for this replacement. Sourcing and prices would be great too!
Searching the web I found different cables being called out and I want to order the correct ones on the first go round.
Sooo, if anyone has any information on doing this work I'd greatly appreciate it!

hmm, definitely sounds like a seized cable. Mine was seized as well, but I had to go to Toyota and show them my VIN so they could get the right one because they had so many different cables lenghts. There was cables online, but none were the lenght I needed

By the way, what is the seized part of the cable? There is two parts to this cable, front and rear. From what you said, it sounds like it's the rear cable that is seized, but check the front cable as well. There should be a pivot on the driver side frame rail, under the cab, where the two halves of the cable attach together. When you pull the e-brake handle, do you see the pivot moving? If it does move properly, that means your front cable is good and it's the rear that is bad.

I can see that you have a double cab short bed, so my rear cable part number won't fit on yours, as I have an extra cab long bed. Yours is going to be a different lenght.

Also, not using the e-brake for an extended period of time makes the cables seize. So keep in mind to use it from time to time, to prevent another cable seize in the future :)

ext cab and double cab are the same length. the exhaust, gas tank, & drive-shafts also work for either. I imagine the e-brake cables would be the same as the pivot point is the same location.

2wd vs 4wd/Pre would be different to an extent due to mounting points in the rear but the front may still be the same due to how the e-brake functions

OK - Thanks for all of the input on the parts suggestions, when I get the parts and time, I'll do a write up!
