I'm glad there is something like a good grease gun coupler available only I feel bad I didn't invent it. It was a natural to come up with that idea.

I threw away my old grease gun because it never fit over the zerks. The new one does but sometimes it's a bear to get it on securely. I even replaced all the zerks on my tractor thinking they were all broken or clogged.

Can't tell you how much grease I wound up using because it just bulged out all over the end coupler with little to none going inside. I was averaging 1-1/2 large tubes of grease and 68 swear words plus three large rolls of paper towels per lube on a five zerk Sears tractor! The only benefit was I could use the spilled over grease on the steering gear.

Even for $30 it's worth it. I always calculate what it would cost to drive to a shop, wait forever, pay for a grease job and drive home. $30 is a small investment when you think of it that way. I'll have to get me one of those good couplers. I assume they work on all standard grease guns.???

No but at about 11,000 miles I had Toyota grease the driveshaft. Mechanic said mine had three zerks. Two others factory sealed.

But my gut tells me there are two more under a cover with four bolts easily removed. I still have to get under it myself and check.

The weather here is just warming up but I'm saddled with all the spring start up stuff.

Yesterday after my second recent trip to Home Depot I picked up a second screw in the rear tire. Last one was a big spike that ruined the tread so I needed a new 265/65-R17 Firestone LE 2 tire. Today the Sheetrock screw went through the inside edge of the tread on the other rear tire, right next to the sidewall so I had to replace it also ; only two weeks after the other rear tire was replaced. I only have 12,000 miles on my 2016 TRD. No more Home Depot. I'm driving to the next town to Lowes which is a much bigger and better store with a separate area for contractors ( who's cargo decks are usually littered with nails and screws. There should be a law against that! Inconsiderate bastards. And Home Depot doesn't keep their lot cleaned well. I even drive in far away along the garden section and park at the end of the lot to avoid picking up nails.

I've even considered a new thread! Tacoma owners against Home Depot and other hardware stores that leave their lot littered with nails and screws. I'm serious!

Meanwhile I spent most of the afternoon at Greentree Toyota getting a new tire. It was empty. Six customer service employees just quit.

I had the customer service guy put in large red bold letters: Please don't scratch wheel!
When I got the truck back the asshole mechanic there used a big metal scraper or screwdriver to remove the old wheel weights. He chiseled about nine deep gouges into the grey painted area of the wheel! I showed the foreman and body shop guy. Now I have to leave my truck for the day next week to have the body shop repair my wheel! What a dealership. I'm married to them until I reach 25,000 miles under warranty. I bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty for six years / 100,000 miles but hope to trade mine in for an exact duplicate with a manual shift again at three years.

Thanks. I'll have to get that. It's worth it just from the standpoint of the grease I lose! Dannyblues

There is only 1 under that cover and you only need to take out the 2 bolts and the other zerk is up at the front, l just did mine the other day and less than 500 miles.

I agree 100% but you and I are alone in the frequent fluids changes. It's a lot cheaper to maintain a vehicle than have it repaired. I believe the long long fluid interval changes called for by Toyota are just marketing ploys to show people how little they need to spend on maintenance ( at the expense of a truly well maintained vehicle! No coolant lasts longer than two years. Some of its valuable properties break down after that even though it still cools effectively.
And lubrication and oil changes are a bit long also. I agree with you.

Your truck is a duplicate of mine but I don't have the front crash bar or window decal. It's a beauty.

Ok. I know there were different configurations in 2016. I'll check mine when it's dry and warm enough out. I'm thin so do I need to jack up the truck to do the driveshaft lube? Dannyblues

That's right! Plus I'm married and my wife is a terror behind the wheel so living in the country I do ALL the driving and shopping and errands and chauffeuring. Doesn't leave a lot of time to get to everything especially in spring. I'm overloaded with chores. I need 48 hour days. Dannyblues ( 24 for sleeping)

I am skinny too and slide right under no problem. I did grind down my coupler to fit in there though as it is tight.

Thanks. I’ve checked my door pillar decal and my TRD was made in 6/16.
    Two zerks in front driveshaft.
    Three zerks in rear driveshaft
    Appreciate that information
