Evening kids. I'm sure everyone has heard about the American Airlines fiasco with the overbooked flight. I find it odd that a company can't sell the correct amount of tickets to match the seats on a plane they own, but we trust them to fly a complicated aircraft. I can't fly because of an inner ear injury, but I really don't mind when I here about the crazy shit that goes on.

 

There's some good advice here. I started out in life working as a mechanic and bought a nice Snap On box with all sorts of Snap On and Mac tools. Now they sit in the garage. I found on thing that I didn't like about Snap On wrenches is that they are thin and tend to dig into my hand when applying a bit of force. Especially notable when doing front end work with sand/grit mixed with grease on your hands. The one thing that the high end makes do right is the swivel sockets. They use solid pins vs the cheap roll pins on the low end stuff.

 

There's no way I'd pack my ass so close to somebody with tuberculosis much less something else.

 

I have been an Industrial Maintenance for a long time. my first boxes where vidmar storage drawers I got at a used at a company going out of business. I put my money in to tool at first then a box. When I finally got a box I sold them to the next new guy.

 

They figure a percentage won't show up so they oversell seats...

 

I just can't get my head around this, you sell 100% of the seats. Then figure x% won't show, so you sell x% more and we will deal with it later. Seems like a piss poor way to do business.

 

The airlines have been overselling tickets for years

 

It's a good thing the airline industry is not in the lifeboat business.

It's a shame though you can buy the performance instead of working for it.

You can't kill vidmar's I have umm a few lol we had them all over the place in the AF and if a bunch of mechanics who do not own them can't break them .. I will warn you buy used new will be just as expensive as a snap on or matco etc or even a bit more. A Decent 42" Vidmar with the right drawer config and wheels will go a long way. But make sure if it has wheels it has the lock out drawers look up the weight on one of them there are not many who could stop that from tipping. Oh and get spare keys breaking into one is a bit more challenging then a Snap On / MAtco box and yes I know this from experience :} Need any more Vidmar info give me a holler.

What area of the country are you in ? Check your local DRMO bases on gov auction you should find them.

United didn't overbook they needed to transport 4 crew members to Loisville for a flight the next day to keep everything on schedule. It appears to have been a bad situation all around

 

I can't say I would not be pissed but .. I would have been but as soon as the gendarmes showed up and said you need to come with us .. Well I would have with out the physical fight you will never win those with the gendarmes and especially not when it comes to Air Craft. Was it right nope they were seated they should have not even let them board if they were to bump them. I have no idea why it was done so late in the game they best have a damn good reason. The previous fiasco the little girls in yoga pants was blown way out of proportion if you look it up they were flying on internal / free pass tickets there are rules attached to them and yoga pants would be a no . That is the fault of the person who supplied the tickets not ensuring they were with in compliance with the rules that applied to those tickets.

I just went back and saw this. I agree with what Mike has already told you. I also began my career with Craftsman tools. I don't regret it for a minute. I don't particularly care for Craftsman tools , however, they get the job done. I differ from Mike in I invested in a quality tool box due to my work environment. We didn't have assigned bays and would have to relocate to the equipment so a solid box with good casters was important. My tools are a hodge podge of all different manufactureers. When buying tools ,especially sockets, you'll get a whole set and discover there's only a few you use regularly. I ended up buying some harbor freight quality impact sockets figuring when I broke one of the ones I used all the time I'd replace it with better quality instead of tying all the money up in a set of Mac's or Snapon's only using a few. Peer preasure will be there to spend spend spend on tools I've seen some guys incredibly in debt. I got what I needed and figured if I needed to borrow a tool 3 times it was time to buy it

 

This but as applied to a fabrication shop floors not clean at all and definitely not a decent quality after years of steel hitting them. I did craftsman then snap on ,mac , Cornwell and specialty metal working tools etc. Why not check out local auctions or CL for old craftsman those marked VV are collectable for quality and a lot do not know that and sell them cheap.

Hey @Kolunatic quick question is there a general size ie dimensions for one of those tankless hot water heaters and what clearances they need around them? Trying to rearrange the small shop for the lathe. I need hang some cabinets over it but it also right near where I want to put the tankless when I can.
