Sorry, Josh. I wasn't too clear. I'm pretty sure I just used a 12mm Allen socket. I have a set that has the bigger sizes from 10mm up in a 1/2 drive. So I was able to get some pretty decent torque on the socket head bolt. Sorry for the confusion!

And on the subject of socket head fasteners, watch out for the drain and fill plugs. If the Allen isn't going into the bolt head perfectly straight, it's super easy to round out the head.

As for the ADD tube, I found that the old RTV was just holding the tube onto the diff. With the stub shaft, I got mine out by putting pressure on two pry bars and then popping both of them. The thing came out so easy it almost hit me in the face!

No problem, yeah I've noticed that on the plugs when I was draining them before.

I'll keep that in my head for when time comes thanks!

The back 12mm mount will come out no problem.

The potential what the :censored: bolt is actually the diff drain plug which is a 10mm allen head. For whatever reason, that lil bastard can be a bitch on some peoples diff.

Like i ended up welding a 3/4'' nut too it i think and using an air impact to get mine off..haha

Make sure you have the correct external torx socket as well to remove the ADD tube. IIRC it's an E14.

If you have problems with the plugs hit them square on with a little hammer. Helps loosen them.

I haven't had a problem with them the few times I've opened them up so hope my luck continues

You still have power issues with 5.29's? (Read it in Brett's thread) Damn I was hoping to get some power back. Maybe super charger time? :p

The elevation kills us. Driving up steep grades doesn't help either. I think that's what Austin was referring to when he was talking about going up I-70.

The only time being at sea level works in my favor. :burnrubber:

I mean I am not expecting a race truck out of these gears, but I do want to know how much of a power difference you felt from 4.10's to 5.29's? Or did you get gears first then tires? @alee891

What Brett said. Elevation is a pain on paved roads - no power issues on trail.
I purchased gears first, then tires. Regardless, you'll feel quite a bit of difference.

Low end is there where it was lacking before regear (even with 285s) and you'll notice a bit of difference off the line. First gear is just a placeholder anymore - I can roll from a stop in 2nd without burning clutch.

Top end will be where you notice quite a bit of difference, particularly while driving on paved roads and highways.

Elevation sucks every bit of life out of my truck.

Wait until you get to drive up Floyd Hill on I70. Idk exactly how long or elevation gained but it's long and steep. I always see vehicles sitting alongside the road presumably overheated.

5.29s put the ants back in Franks Pants for me.

Even at elevation it is 10000% better.

I went from stock tires and gears to 315/5.29 and the difference was noticeable. Much better off the line, waaaaaay better in 4LO, and better at freeway speeds as well. I like that it bumped the revs on the highway a bit, because I don't downshift nearly as much now.

Gears certainly help for elevation, but I'm not ripping up I-70 or 285 by any means. When I was going to Ryan's place last weekend I was able to hold ~65 mph in 5th gear pretty steadily from Golden to Berthoud Pass, which is a drastic change from 4.10s @ 65 mph slamming between 3rd and 4th pinned. But if I needed to make a pass there was no way in hell it was happening.

That's impressive pulling Floyd in 5th. Idk if the wrx would do it in 4th without boost.
