Just introduced Taco to sail, they got along great. Boat and trailer 5000# ,pulled it real nice.

 

Drug this home yesterday.

 

Heres my setup. 2014 Tacoma DCSB 4x4 SR5/ 2016 Sonic Lite SL169VBH by Venture RV . The trailer is 3000lbs dry and somewhere between 3500 and 3700 loaded for camping depending on how long we are camping and if we take our toddler with us.

Thank you. These pics were from the day we picked it up and the 2 and last camping trip of the season last year. Got it late in the summer and were only able to get out twice with it. The truck has since had a Firestone Ride Rite Kit installed, and hooked up to the trailer I need 25 to 30 psi to have the truck sitting at unloaded height. I have other mods to the truck on the brain, just a matter of money and time.

 

Nice. I went up and looked at the Sonic 210vrd yesterday. While I passed on the one they had in stock, the features and layout pretty much locked out most of the other trailers I've looked at. At 6' tall, in the shower, I had 4" of head room not including the skylight. Not having to hunch down to take a shower or hit my head on the roof when I don't hunch is nice.
There were a couple issues with the one they had in stock that made me say no to buying it. Mainly, having to negotiate to get some features that it comes with from the factory. But I will wait til June to check the next one they get in.

How does the 5th wheel hitch mount up in the polymer bed?

 

It probably bolts through to the frame. Every serious 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch actually bolts to the frame anyway, and the holes are just punched in the bed for the hardware to pass through. The bed is not structurally strong enough to hold up to the abuse of a hard stop with a heavy trailer. I don't mean "our bed", but any bed, sheetmetal beds even.

I use the braket from a ford ranger and i instal them on my frame then drill hole on my composite bed to bolt the rail to the braket.

 

Do you have any pictures of it and how it's mounted?

 

I am away from home due to work for the next 5 week but when ever i will get home i will show you how a did it. it is prelly simple, this is the same way evry raill are instal on truck bed. the only thing is they dosn,t make the braket for tacoma this is why i use the tho one for ford ranger

Hey everyone sorta new posting here, I went through most of this thread and I don't see a bunch of toy haulers rather more TT's. Do any of you have toy haulers w/overall length b/w 19' & 25'? I have been in market for while but the choices are scarce bc most will require 1/2 ton to pull with. I'm limited bc need something long & tall enough to fit a razor inside and also stay under 6500# after all said and done. Most have dry weights over 4k and after loading 1300-1500# razor, gear (couple hundred #) and filling fresh H2O tank, I'll be close to all the limits of my taco. Just looking to see what your all's experience is (good or bad) and which models you have.

Considering following toy haulers:
Jayco Octane 161: Dry 4390, GVWR 7k, Hitch 620 (think best option)
Genesis Supreme 19SS: Dry 5220, GVWR 8200, Hitch 760 (I won't be maxing it out)
Gulf Stream Track & Trail 17RTHSE: Dry 3770, GVWR 7760, Hitch 620

as soon as you get into double axle, you're psuing the limits of what a tacoma can handle comfortably. While I'd tow 6000 lbs cross town once or twice, I wouldn't want to tow more than about 4500 lbs long distances on a regular basis.

you have a DC? thats got 1000 lbs payload total, subtract driver + passengers + any gear on truck, THEN SUBTRACT YOUR TONGUE WEIGHT, and I bet you end up overloaded with any of those.

Do note, tongue weights are for optimal loading of the trailer, and if its even remotely close where where its critical, the tongue weight should be measured. weight behind the trailer axle actually lowers tongue weight, weight in front increases it. too little tongue weight for a given load destabilizes the whole rig. 10-20% of the total trailer weight is optimal from a stability standpoint, and trailers usually quote 15%. that 620 lbs tongue on a 7000 lb gross is suspicious.

 

All of those Trailers are over the Tacomas GVWR, I would not recommend them. This is why you don't see many of us towing them, our trucks can't tow that weight. Not a good Idea, sorry

 

Oh and towing the FJ was a 1 time thing (can't say that'll be case in future) to just get it home when I bought it. It was long 625 mile trip home but I had the biggest smile on my face the whole way. Most all the other times I tow it looks like this... 3500-4500# and she pulls and stops w/o a problem.
