Finally found what I'm looking for after a year of searching and don't want to miss this one. I live in central NY so rusty frames have been keeping me from purchasing a Tacoma since I can't find one worth the price that will be a solid investment.

Put a refundable deposit down on this one and going to hopefully purchase it on Sunday (4/2). It's a 4.5 hour drive to the dealership and I'm not afraid to walk away empty handed, but I have a good feeling this one is worth it.

    Quick Stats:
2006 Double Cab Short Bed TRD Off-Road
    108XXX Miles
One owner, always serviced at the same Toyota dealership
    All recalls done
Frame replaced in 2015 (you can still see the sticker from the photos!)
Price is where I need it to be (I actually found a similar truck at another dealership and pitted them against each other until this one budged $200 below the other truck, never thought it would work)

    Link to truck: https://www.lundgrenhondaofauburn.c...coma-base-4wd-4d-double-cab-5telu42n26z248955

I currently drive a 97 Xtra cab 4wd with 167XXX miles and it's from GA so it's vitrually rust free, but I need the extra seats now. So that will be up for sale soon hopefully.

Anything to look out for when I go to test drive?

    Any thoughts?

Hopefully I'll be moving from the 1st gen to the 2nd gen forum soon.

Yeah, no accidents from CARFAX and dealer is having it pulled out today. I got my Tacoma I own today for a steal because it had a dent, 10 years later it has been nothing but awesome!

It comes with a OEM bedmat.. I say buy it!

The other truck you were eyeing, how close was the seller/dealership to your house?

They are also located in MA, but that truck didn't have a frame replacement, just the CRC. Same exact truck, same exact price. Want a link?

Nice. Enjoy it. Double check the mounting for the frame replacement. Brake line brackets, other bolts and mounting locations.

Thanks. It had the new frame for about 15k miles so I figured that the previous owner and dealership worked out any kinks that arose from the swap. New frame is nice, runs smooth, and it sure is an upgrade from my 97, which sold the minute I put it on Craigslist (I cried a little at I watched it drive away).

I think I want to start a "how is your new frame holding up" thread...This has been my nagging question for a while. I stopped by the local Toyota dealership yesterday and saw their pile of ridiculously rusted out frames and asked their opinion on the new frames. Response was the ones that have come back in for service look good still. Being a scientific minded person I want more than anecdotal evidence though.

As someone who used to have a very customer service oriented job I learned from my boss that even if you lose a little money now you can create a lasting customer in the long run. Hopefully Toyota took that idea to heart with the frame LSC and actually made better frames the second go around. A lot of people doubt it, but I'm hopeful. This truck has two somewhat mild Northeast winters under it's belt with the new frame and the only rust is very minor surface on the welds.

I'm still getting ready to clean it up this summer and then fluid film it, but I really wonder what would it look like if left untreated, would it have holes in it in another 7 years?

One other thing I'm contemplating is a secondary heat shield for the rear cats. That seemed to be the big problem area, I figure with some aluminum, a drill, and some exhaust pipe clamps I can make something worthwhile fairly easily.

My last truck went 20 years before anything needed to be worked on it, hoping this truck can do the same.

Treating the frame your self is your best bet. I suspsect they would last the life of the truck if properly maintained. I treated mine even though there isn't anything to worry about down here in piedmont North Carolina. I've never heard of a concern with the cats getting to hot. A freer flowing exhaust would always help. :)

As far as the cat, I don't think it gets too hot, I believe that the heat helps speed up the reaction of rusting near that part of the frame. But I'll definitely being treating this frame, and the entire truck to make it last a long time.

I crawled under it before I purchased it. Inspected the crap out of it. Everything was great. The new frame is solid.

I'm guessing that your videos are of an older frame? What year? Was it CRC undercoated?

Edit: also it seems that people are having vastly different experiences in Canada.

    Hopefully you get a remedy.
