What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Just be careful if you go the screwdriver route. There is a potential chance the filter rips up and you get left with a stump of metal still threaded in.

My second diy oil change I realized I tightened the filter on too much (honestly snug + a 1/4 turn is all you need on an OEM filter). I ended up being able to use a strap wrench to get it slightly loosened and then flipped some work gloves inside out to use the rubber knuckle protectors as grippers to get it the rest of the way.

It sounds like you're planning to leave that same filter on until your next oil change. I hope that's not the case.

 

Absolutely. Also put my last few sessions of used oil in. You think I'll be OK? I'm shivering to think what might happen now.

Arguably it would be better to run old oil with a new filter than vice versa.

 

I'm getting better at that. The wheels and tires were difficult, had to get creative and play it off like they were always on the truck to begin with.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I've done that as well. Some stuff she hasn't even noticed thankfully. The retros were another BS story that I had to make up, and she bought, for now...

 

LOL!!!!!!!! She's not that bad. She's noticed some stuff... not everything though. Somehow, the pro grille was one thing she didn't notice.

 

I still have no idea if he's serious or not....once he gets the wrench in, it'd take a minute to swap on a new filter, that he already has on hand since he was planning on changing it anyways.

 

Just don't park next to a stock Tacoma, it's a dead giveaway when you do that. I've played it off as mine is newer than that one or that one's a different model TRD OR, TRD Sport, or it's a TRD PRO, whatever works at the moment. It's more likely that they know but they see your happy and as long as the bills are paid and there's food in the house she will let you buy some goodies for yourself.

Just finished installing @Mobtown Offroad front tow bar! Looks sexy. Any advice on how to mount front license plate? So far using zip ties.

 

I'd just drill a couple new holes in your license plate and shift the plate to right above the tow bar. I did that on mine, and it looked fine and never had any trouble with the police.
