I have an 04 Toyota Tacoma with an 8 inch lift and axels that came from a 77 ford bronco . My rear drive shaft needs to be replaced . I rebuilt it once because the center bearing was bad I got that changed along with the universals and it broke the next day , now I've been told the shaft is unfixable so I've decided to get a new or used driveshaft. I'm trying to order one online , the problem I'm having is ordering one that'll fit . The shaft I have now is custom and it came with the truck , I can't just order a Toyota shaft cause my rear end is ford . And the bronco shafts aren't long enough for my Toyota I don't know how to measure it . Plus I'm a girl that doesn't know shit about trucks Please help , and advice would help .

Some pics of the truck would help.
Nearly any good driveshaft shop should be able to customize a ds for you.

    Call Tom Wood's custom drvshfts, www.4xshaft.com, 1-877-4x-shaft
they will walk you thru what measurements they need to build you a new shaft and from what I've heard their prices are reasonable.

The downside to living on a Island Paradise .

Your going to need a custom one built the 8" lift makes it more interesting

Toyota yokes on one end Ford on the other .

Not really all that hard just the fact of where your living

The centering ball needed to be replaced I got it done , the next day it broke again . I guess the guy I paid didn't put it together good or whatever . So I was running my truck with that part broken for a while because I had to work (I know, what an idiot) and now the metal is all eaten up so I can't just rebuild it , the mechanic said I have to buy a new shaft because of that. But I do have all the old parts , I'll probably just Try to measure everything. Thanks by the way !

id measure across the u-joint and the cups for the ujoints then measure middle of rear u-joint to middle of forward u-joint for length of the driveline if that makes sense.

The hard part with this is the lift kit without that this would be simple.

All I can say is measure everything take as many pictures as possible

Pinon angle comes into play .

because of the lift this needs to most likely longer then stock

It is measured flange to flange for length

I love Hybrid vehicles myself but sometimes having Custom parts made can be a Royal pain

Most places this would not really be a Major issue insert the OP`s location into the equation and it goes slightly sideways.

Pick your Driveshaft builder of choice ship your bad driveshaft to them a new one shows up after money changes hands

I have a customer who builds drive shafts He said no real problem .

Most times depending on the failure the old flanges are removed and rewelded to the new tube.

Have you made any headway in what your going to do??

Do you have any idea what caused the failure in the first place lack of maintenance ??

    Just noticed this,
the good news is you don't need a new drvshft you need a new mechanic,
the part you need is called a constant velocity joint consisting of two u-joints with a centering ball between them which should be able to be purchased over the counter and installed.
