If the dealer won't do it, call toyota corporate. Tell them your a long time toyota owner and this was a recent purchase, you bought it because of the previous experience with toyota .and I bet it gets warranted.

I was looking at a 02 Tacoma 4x4 2.7 with 225000+ miles for 10k.only thing going for it was a matching Lund topper

That didn't do a ounce of good in my case. I just bought a 2016 4Runner trail edition premium, had Tacoma's, and my 2004 was a beautiful truck everywhere except the frame. Toyota corporate wouldn't touch it because of the bullshit CRC spray wasn't applied by the deadline. I had my frame patched and sold it. Bought an '05 that qualified for the frame replacement.

Maybe your 01 frame is only weak in the one spot you found, but I doubt it. Good luck.

yes there were letters sent out to owners to come in and have the frame inspected and to have FREE undercoating applied to the frame for rust protection, since a lot of frames in Northern states are rusting out due to road salt corrosion. If you at minimum didn't take the truck in for an inspection you probably voided any liability for future frame repair due to rust

My problem was the previous owner didn't take the truck in. Toyota didn't make a huge effort to try and locate subsequent owners of Tacoma's. If the OP's truck was bought from the original owner (older gentleman) he likely got a call from toyota to bring his truck in for the FREE CRC spray (which isn't worth the air that propels it)

Either way I'd say his 2001 is SOL from toyota's perspective. But I'd try and call, that doesn't cost a thing.

My point I was trying to make is corporate didn't give a rats ass that I was a loyal Toyota owner who just dropped over 50k on a 4Runner.

It is a business you have to draw the line some place .

Besides they can`t keep up with demand for the warranty frames now

It is all how one looks at it I would rather build or repair a frame then change brakes

Nice! You could have them do an overall inspection as well! Can't hurt

The part that gets me is they say it's not a safety issue. Therefor its not a recall, rather a customer satisfaction campaign. If it was everyone would get a new frame that had a rust hole (and I think they should) the truck that got its frame replaced before mine had the lower control arm break off the frame, tire fell in, and could have resulted in serious injury or death. All cause by a rotten frame. (2wd model) the problem is well documented as an issue.

Just glad I found my 2005 that qualified for a new frame, never again will I deal with a rotten frame.

Well Toyota dealer said they would fix spare tire bracket that is prone to rust, but can't do anything about frame. Went to a friend of family, body shop. Looked it over real good and said it could be fixed and coated for $600 cash. Dealer offered to fix for $12000

Nice truck, get it fixed and don't sweat it. It was a good deal and even with the repairs you are ahead of the curve.

KBB in that truck is about 6k. You guys seem to know a lot more about them than I do , it's worth fixing and driving. Thanks for every one s input. Will update for sure

These trucks usually go for substantially over KBB value, especially 4x4s with the TRD package. Very sought after and hard to find with low miles. That truck would sell for $10-14k easily out here in southern CA. I bought my 04 4x4 TRD last year for about $20k with 24k miles on it. It wasn't much more than that when it was brand new. I love the older, compact style Tacomas though and was willing to pay what I had to to get this one.

If you do end up selling it, Id list it out here in SoCal and double your money on it. Patched frame and all, I'd bet.

Things are a little cheaper in Kentucky, but still hard to find ANY descent truck for 6-8k
