I was at a new/used car dealer today looking for a car for my wife. He saw my Taco and asked if I was trading it. I told him no and I was trading my wife's Camry. He said when a Taco is traded they go immediately. They usually are on the lot a day or two. We can't keep them! Just sayin.

My SIL took her 3 yo super low mileage RAV in for an oil change and got the exact same spiel.

    Can you imagine that?

Except she took the bait and came home with a new RAV.

That's interesting....when I was at the dealership in Asheville last month they had about 10 to 12 3rd gens sitting in their preowned section. A lot of them with very low mileage.

They say the same thing about my 10 year old FJ and 13 year old Land Cruiser when I take them in for service. I'm pretty sure any low mileage Toyota 4x4 in good shape gets the same spiel.

Most people looking for a used car aren't willing to pay what the 3rd gens are still valued at... too close to new price to risk a previous owner. Give it a few years and it won't be the same story. The same thing happens across the industry with generation changes...

Not my point...just surprised at how many preowned newer trucks there were. I'm not a used car expert but it seemed like a lot of newer Tacomas were in the lot than any other vehicle. 2014s and 15s are still up there in price as well. My girlfriend has been shopping around for a Tacoma and the KBB is still around $30k for a low mileage 2nd gen.

This all depends on geographic area and the demand. New tacos are going for less than used here in the Phoenix area.

Hell I had 2 people test drive the truck I bought while working the price out with the dealer!

I was not at a Toyota dealer. I was at a Nissan dealership. That's what was interesting.

Maybe. But I have several 2015's I'm considering. One has been on the lot since last Haloween. I'm not sure what the story is other than the price is very high. It has very low miles.

Not so much. The salesman was more interested in making a sale of a new whatever than he was on taking your trade.

Next time ask him what his best cash offer is, and you'll walk home.

Bet his enthusiasm is greatly dampened. But why? According to him it will still be gone tomorrow. It will be because he can't actually pay you anywhere near the same as he can 'allow' you for a trade.

I'm not saying they don't love nice trades, or that the Tacoma doesn't move well for him. But remember, they always care about margin. If a target for used margin is X, they're just as happy to take it on a nice Malibu as on a Tacoma. It's just different numbers.

Every dealer wants every trade in, they will say anthing for a sale.

Most dealers don't have fast turn around on trade in taco's because they mark the price up and let them sit.

We have used Taco Sports in Canada @ 43,000$....

I'm always amazed that people fall for this common practice. About as amazed when people say they were rear ended while sitting still and the car that hit them was doing 40 and it only bent their hitch...
