my best advice is to go out and shoot as many different makes, models, calibers as possible and get an idea of what you're most comfortable with... if you're not comfy with a weapon you won't hit shit!! BTW I'm a backer of the .40, it's best for me... Good Luck!

To the OP, a lot of people here, myself included, are claiming the school of thought they subscribe to as if it's fact. There are many conflicting theories in every aspect of shooting technique, weapon/ammunition choice, and self-defense strategy. In the end, they are probably all correct. Do some research, pick the theories that you feel comfortable with and make the most sense to you. Then practice, practice, practice.

well that is less than what buck would do to it, and that's probably with a extra full or full choke, an improved of modified would do less damage.

Great home defense revolver. Taurus makes a nice hammerless revolver. 5 shot comes in .357/.38 calibers. Great for concealed carry or a easy to use home defense.

Well, mine is a single barrel, break action. If it takes more than one shot I am screwed.

I do kind of like the thought a .410 handgun...hmmm...

That guy is a crack pot among other things he says that bird shot will not kill a guy good enough at across room distances in a average home.

I'll pass on anything else he has to say

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
You can kill somebody without a projectile...muzzle blast and concussion, if standing close enough.

Well, to keep you guys updated...my wife decided against a revolver. She said revolvers were "lame." LOL. Anyway, the winner is the Glock G17 9mm.

Thats exactly whats in my closet! I have the 8 round mag tube in mine as well, more than enough fire power than you will hopefully you'll ever need! But the Judge is a good gun, fun to shoot... best of both worlds!

I carry a Ruger SP101 with a 2" barrel with a Houge grip. When it is in the
night stand next to the bed it's loaded with Federal 38 Specia l110 grain HydroShocks.
When it is riding with me it's got 180 grain cast bullets leaving the
barrel at 1500 fps. with my eyes getting older I'm going to put Crimson Trace laser grips on her.

Kirk, was it difficult to get the concealed carry permit? I have been reading a little bit about it and they make it sound simple...almost too simple.
