There's really no significant break in on these vehicles that's a thing of the past

Had a Frontier years ago. Good overall truck. Wish they redesigned the current looks. Good choice.

I have 23000 miles on my truck and I am a year in. It is the best thing I have ever purchased. Reliable, no issues except for two USB issues. Great gas mpg for a truck and I don't mind the shifting because I know the transmission is trying to sip gas.

People here are going to flame war over the truck but rarely will they leave the Toyota brand or the Tacoma resale value.

But we all know what we really want are new Ford Raptors....

How are the mpg's on the 6sp? Wondering if you are getting something similar to the "high falutin" tech in the 3rd gen.

Fuelly has them from 1-2 mpg in favor of the Tacoma for V6 models. Unfortunately can't break it down to auto vs manual.

I am VERY close to possibly getting a Frontier Pro4X as they can now be had for $5k off sticker.

At $36k for loaded Frontier Pro4X vs $39k for loaded Tacoma OR, it's a close call.

At only $31k for loaded Frontier Pro4X, it gets a bit wider spread, even though the Frontier is stuck with the antiquated rear disc brakes o_O

In the fall (rebate season in Canada) I figure I can get a fully loaded Frontier Pro 4X crew cab for about $30 - 31K while a Tacoma TRD OffRoad doublecab would be around 40K. When it comes down to 9 - 10K difference, I can easily live with the Frontier.

Seems to get 17 city with short trips and 20-22 highway depending on speed etc. An average top up yields 19mpg.

A bit worse on fuel than a Tacoma but the Frontier Pro-4x has 265/75R16 ATs and most crew cabs have the roof rack. Add those to a Tacoma and I feel it would be just as thirsty. The price was a draw for me, I just ended up really liking the overall package.

A king cab Pro-4x 6spd could be had for $28,999 in fall 2016. Been thinking about upgrading to a '17 CCSB Pro-4x auto in the fall if there's deals.
