    Hey all,

thanks for taking the time to read and pass along any suggestions you can provide. I'm a noob and could use a little help. I've decided to go with the Toytec Ultimate lift but am wondering what else, if anything, I'll need? I know that I'll need an alignment afterwards.

There is a Rough Country rep here in town who is trying to get me to go with their 4" lift kit and keeps saying that with the Toytec 3" I'll run into ball joint issues down the road due to the angle. True or false? Would also getting the upper control arms with the Toytec lift alleviate that issue? The reviews for the Rough Country stuff don't seem that great and it appears to be a cheap alternative to doing it right. I don't like the idea of putting blocks, instead of leafs, in the rear - I want to keep the ride close to factory (i.e. smooth)

I'm also going with new rubber, AT T/A K02 (265/70R16) that I'll be putting on the original rims (16") for now. Would you recommend going a size larger due to the lift? I don't want to do any trimming or cutting. I am on fire/cottage/hunt roads about 10% of the time and it's my daily driver.

I know these questions have probably been asked to death but I really appreciate any and all positive input.

    Have a Happy Easter guys.

    Cheers

Hey big ring, I have the toytec ULK and am very satisfied with it. I had a good shop install it and have no issues with the angles. That rough rep wants to make a sale. Unlike some, I have not had to swap out the uca's or have a cmc done. If needed I certainly would have done so, however I don't off-road so that's a consideration.
I went shortly after to 285's and did have to do trimming, though it's quite easy and nothing to be concerned about.
    Def get the alignment done.
    Hope this helps.

First lets get this out of the way. Welcome to TacomaWorld!

When it comes to Toyota trucks, I'll always try to steer people away from rough country. Understanding that everyone has budget limitations not all options are within reach. If you go with the Toytec kit I strongly suggest considering the addition of a pair of upper control arms to alleviate that ball joint issue that he told you about. I think Light Racing has an affordable option that many here have had great success with. You may even be able to get in on a group buy that nets even more of a discount. If you keep the numbers low you may not even need UCA's but like I said, I'd seriously consider them especially if you have plans to go off-road and utilize the suspension articulation.

Again, Welcome to the TacomaWorld family and please keep us posted about the choices you made and how you like the results.

Thanks guys - much appreciated. After some more reading I'm going to go with the Toytech Ultimate lift and the 285's and do a little trimming. And thanks GT - found two group buys for uca currently happening so am going to jump on one of those! It's going to cost a bit more but I think it's the right decision to go with them.

Once these mods are done it'll be saving up for a new set of rims - love the Stealth Custom F5 rims in bronze, then a topper for the rear, and depending how much off-roading I get into maybe some new bumpers. Man, this gets addictive!

    Thanks again fellas!

Two more quick questions. 1) will I need wheel spacers if I keep stock 16" rims? and 2) with the 285's plus the 3" lift how much over stock height am I looking at?

    Cheers
