Hey everyone, i have a 2000 2.7 prerunner automatic and i just finished doing a 4x4 manual conversion. All i have left to do is the wirring, the donor truck is a 1995 2.7 and i wanted to use the computer from that truck to make it run but toyota used a distributor from 1995 to 1998. The engine in my 2000 uses coil packs and i cant convert to a distributor because the camshaft doesnt have a gear on the end to make the distributor work. I had repositioned all the wires for the computer to plug in the 1995 computer and when it came to my distributor issue i repositioned all the wires to plug it in my 2000 computer. I then bypassed my park/neutral switch wires and when i turned the key the engine cranked but did not start. After searching why it wouldnt start i noticed that my computer didn't have any output therefore my sparkplugs didnt spark, my injectors didnt inject and my fuel pump didnt pump. I checked if i had voltage going in and i do.

My question is, is it possible that because i am using a computer from an automatic truck with a manual transmission that it wont start because it sees that the transmission isnt there?

Also when i plug my obdII reader in, it doesnt read the computer. It says "data link error" protocal 9141.

data link error tells me the OBDII is not receiving a signal from the ECU. Are you sure the ECU has power?

    Wasn't 1995 pre-OBDII? I thought they switched over to OBDII in 1996
