The engine/transmission for a V6/Auto Tacoma is the same no matter what trim level you get. My SR5 does ride like a truck, but that's the nature of the beast. Make sure your tires are inflated properly (not over inflated), that could make the ride harsher.

My wife and I both drive our van all the time. Sometimes going back and forth multiple times a day. Then we sit there like morons adjusting it. My next Sienna AWD will have memory seats for sure.

But if you're not married or your life partner is near your size you don't have to worry about it.

A lot of gee-whiz stuff that 10-12 years from now the 2nd and 3rd owners will be posting here of how to fix cheap.

Seems most original owners of high end stuff don't keep them terribly long. They see another pretty bobble and move on. Sure, there are exceptions, and someone will be along soon to point out. I'm just suggesting to look what's on the lot in the used slot. More fancy than work trucks.

I intentionally bought a base (not even SR5!) but it did have the convenience package which gave it a few nuggets. I've added intermittent wipers and a backup mirror/camera that it was all prewired for, and it suits me as it is. But for me it's a 20 year truck. Barring some snowbird taking me out, or one of my grandsons conning me out of it in a few years...... :D

So you're right. Is the bucks on the front end worth the toys? Not to me. Only you can decide for you. I want my truck to be more of a truck. My highway cruiser/people mover can have a few more of the trinkets. Dual AC and heated seats my wife would enjoy. She just doesn't know it.

OP. Nothing wrong with the SR5. You saved money and can always customize it yourself. If I didn't get such a great price for my OR, I would have went with a sr5 and been happy. Don't second guess your purchase or it will eat you up. If you want to modify it, to me that makes it fun! Get out there and enjoy your truck!

Nothing wrong with that. But it is a 4wd unit right?

You get some snow where you are and some of the finest roads in the area are red clay. So the 4wd could some in handy w/o being 'off road'

I mean it is a truck and will ride like one. Put 500# or so in the bed and see if it's better. Just for fun. If better, its the unloaded springs giving you trouble.

Wait till they get their moving done and call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and discuss that with her. See if she has any options to help. Especially since you don't need lift and all that.

In the meantime, check your air pressures. Dealer lot boys are notorious for filling tires to the max pressure shown on the sidewalls. Which is way over what the door jamb sticker will tell you to use.

the sport is a rip. You get a scoop that's not even functional.[/QUOTE]

Not entirely true. Apparently the sport hoods don't suffer the same flutter issues from delamination that I have heard about on the other trims. So there you go the scoop is better.

While I do agree, based on the price of the Off Road, the sport is overpriced. But the sport has the smile factor. I haven't drive an OR, but I love the handling of the sport. I don't ever think I would take my daily transportation in places that require the crawl or rear locker. Therefore the sport was worth it to me.
Would I be upset with myself if I got the SR, there were things I wanted on my truck that haven't had in my previous tacos. Intermittent wipers. Now that I have found TW, I could do that. I also wanted a manual V6, I'm not sure that was available in the SR, but cannot say I researched it either.
But if your really upset with the SR, trade up to a pro. "Best" of the worlds.

Stuff the Sport has over the SR5 w/appearance package

    Leather Shifter
    Push to start
    mirror w/Compass
    Wireless Charging
    LED Mirror Turn Signals
    Colored Rear bumper
    SCEEEUUUP
    17in Alloys
    Diff Seat Fabric
    Hitachi shocks
    A/C power outlet
    LED DRLs
    Chrome Grill
    Entune Premium Audio w/Navigation

    (both 2016 DCSB, V6, A/Ts, 4x4, Tow Pkg, $900 Shipping charge)
    Sport - $35250
    SR5 - $33460

$1790 difference, which in my opinion, the navigation + power outlet alone are worth that much without going w/ aftermarket and breaking the warranty.

If you plan to keep the truck forever, I think those commodities are worth the price tag.
If you plan to sell the truck later, the TRD badge will allow you to sell it for 2k more...

Edit: that price comparison was for the 2016. Note the 2017 model prices are now different.

My portable Garmin will perform as well, or outperform, any Toyota in dash unit.

I can also update it for free, which Toyota owners can't. Unless the rules change.

I can also pack it for travel and pop it in my rental car/truck, or move to a friends vehicle if we ride with them.

I don't really know what AC power outlet you have listed. The one in the bed? Or is it something in the cab? Anyway, a simple plug in inverter will outperform the OE system load wise

Neither of my options void any warranty.

All the other stuff are trinkets. In less that 10 years KBB will show all those options valued at about $150. It's the core truck that matters, and it's condition.

If folks want that stuff it's fine. Keep the economy pumping. Just realize it's not a real value package. It's mostly margin.

Not disagreeing with your gamin, and agree it probably out performs the Entune. But the garm in is easier to lose. As for the other trinkets, I think they will bring more, people see the TRD Sport or OR and pay more. Even though you are correct most not needed.

The only thing I kinda wish I had was the locker, bilstiens and fender flares. Not really interested in the other features. I like basic though.

I agree. Most of these features can be added by anyone. But we are talking about a production vehicle that you can just go to a dealer, pick out and purchase it outright.

My brother works at a Toyota(service operator) dealer where many people have done electrical mods (usually ones with little experience or though put into them) that destroy the vehicles' computer(s). Those computers are not cheap and you cannot get an aftermarket computer for a Toyota....

So yea simply buying an inverter can and will void your warranty, anything that's electrical will be voided(which is everything in these new trucks).

I've actually seen some people in this forum add HID lights that busted their central dash display. So... is there aftermarket options that are better? YES. Will they void your warranty? Most likely, YES.

(BTW, they have made the Nav. update-able. )

    SRs are for poor people.

Sports are for sissy mall crawlers.

Off-Roads are for dudes that need tech to feel comfortable going onto a flat grass field cause they don't know how to drive.

    Limiteds are for yuppies.

Now that everybody is equally insulted, just enjoy your truck.
