I am a pizza cutter guy and fully endorse this argument. I am also an idiot and like to stick houses on the back of my Tacoma.

Also, thank all of you in advance for helping me change broken CV joints.

Im not sure how nick did that. @Mademan925 did you have a solid spacer on the pinion installed?

I'm sure that if you didn't lock the front end 35's would be fine.

Wouldn't be as fun to wheel though.

Although I have seen people do the Rubicon with only a single locker.

A friend on here (who I won't tag to spare them) stripped his ring gear doing a clutch dump on 285's. Yeah that was silly but it had nothing to do with tire size and everything to do with user error. We don't know how Nicks truck was being driven when that happened, my guess is it could have been avoided. All the solid pinion spacers in the world are not going to save your diffs if you have a lead foot.

If your wheels turned to lock, you've got both lockers engaged and you are completely bound up going forward. If you can, reverse and pick a new line. Flooring it trying to make a line where there is not one is only going to end badly.

Not directing this at you @jqueener simply using your post.

    Exactly, Jimmy I agree 100%
most of the time its the lead foot and bad drivers. @Fernando -hammer down = shit breaking. LOL oh young grasshopper .lol I remember that first trip with you in the snow.
but if his driveline took a hit with no solid spacer even the best driver may not always avoid that. nature of the beast. hints my ? to Nick. im really just curios if it was lack of something or just user error. nicks truck sees a lot of use and makes for a good learning tool like jberrys rig as well. to those of us building at a slower pace I like to see what caused said failure in hopes to learn from their mistakes.

    enough to go over stuff
My truck is only used for wheeling and its heavy. I don't drive with a heavy foot. Lisa was at the all women's jillianrebekah event and she did a couple hill climbs others were to afraid to do. She did give it some gas but nothing crazy. On the 520 mile drive home I could hear a faint clicking, Lisa couldn't hear it. I tried to duplicate it on the street the next day and couldn't. I jacked up the truck spun the drive shaft and tires and no clicking but I decided I needed to take it to the shop. I headed to the shop the next day and the clicking was back. Didn't sound terrible though. All of a sudden there was a boom. The truck jumped and the noise was a loud boom every rotation of the axle. I pulled over and called a tow truck.

Truck got towed to the gear shop. The gears were still under manufacture warranty so I just had to pay for the install and they gave me a deal because they did the install. I believe they used a crush wash torqed to spec. The truck is now fixed and home.

I got a little over a year out of the gears and I can afforded the annual service fee of getting new gears every year but Ill be looking at a custom axle. Ill start saving now and hopefully early 2018 @Basikbiker will be installing a new 9" on my truck.

Barry the owner of the gear shop who has been doing gears for 30 years says my truck is to heavy with 35s to wheel on a 8'" diff. The key there is wheel.... If it were on road use he thinks it would be fine.

My truck is only out of the garage to be on dirt and that's been the last 4 weekends in a row.

@jAndyMendo blew his diff on 33s recently
@jberry813 blew his on 35s recently
Alex.busta on IG on 34s recently no additional weight or armor
@sytfu510 on 35s recently with armor and 35s

These trucks all used offroad frequently.

Also, after the 500 mile break in period I'll be swapping my diff oil to conv Lucas 85-140 per @jberry813 it's liquid gold and should help extend the life of my gears.

That's one of the nice things about the 1st gens. Under engined and over axled. That and good throttle control equal no broken things.

    ...too much shit to list.

I didn't blow a diff. Yes it's differential work, but quite a bit different than your situation and Andy. And according to my installer, whoever did the gear work prior had set it up incorrectly. They had to take a shitload of preload out. The pinion bearing was welded to the pinion shaft causing that god awful noise. But because they couldn't get the bearing off the pinion shaft, and pinion gears are paired with ring gears, I needed a new R&P.

All that said and all i heard was you still have a crush wash. Might be the problem. But yes 35s too big.
