Been looking to lift my '03 DBSB 4WD TRD (250k miles) BUT I really don't want to drop $1000-$1500 (not including install) for equipment. It's not a rock crawler or heavy off-roader. It won't even be my main daily driver (I have a 4Runner for that). It's primarily for a secondary vehicle, carrying "stuff", hunting (pulling trailer/ATV) and such. What would be a good set-up for under $1000 installed that will provide 2"-3" of lift?

That is, unless my leafs and coilovers are worn out and need replacing. How can I tell?

If they have 250k miles I'm sure they are tired.

Under $1000 installed for a complete suspension setup? That sounds like something I'd avoid.

Ok. I've decided on OME 881 (2.00") with 5100's but I'm not sure how to handle the rear. Should I do the HS 3 Leaf Progressive AAL or new Dakar packs? Again, I know new packs would be the "ideal" choice but I don't know if my stock leafs are worn out or not (250k miles on truck). Again, this isn't really an "off-road" vehicle. Quite a price difference in AAL and new packs.

Anyone? Anyone at all. BTW...currently hub center to fender edge 20.25" front (both sides) and 20.75" rear (both sides). 0.50" rake is acceptable to me.

What rear springs do you have now? Easiest way to determine this is to count how many springs you have (not including overload) and how many spring retainer clips you have. There is currently a recall on a number of the different springs for a wide range of years, see if you're covered under that. If you are, considering going that route and a progressive AAL, I've also heard that Toyota will reimburse you for aftermarket leafs under that recall, not sure the particulars on that though. I decided to go with a full leaf pack myself even though I have the most updated rear spring, overall it should ride better than an AAL setup since I rarely load the bed with much weight.

I have an 03 and I think the recall only covers 05-15.

You made a good choice for the money and your intended usage. I think you will be happier with the full Dakar Springs.

Good idea on a 15 yo 250k ride.

    Ok, that makes it easier

1st question is why do you need any lift at all? Not needed to accomplish what you are looking to do. Unless you've not mentioned something.

Seems like your usage function and financial goals could easily be met with a set of airbags.

Looking to put a slightly larger set of tires on it and the lift would be for appearance mainly.
It's been a GOOD truck for me for the last 10 yrs and I don't have any plans of getting rid of it. Plus my daughter is 14 and will be needing a ride in the next 2-4 yrs.

Now we get to the root. :D

The higher you lift, the more potential for issues. So the low side of your goals might be better. 'slightly larger' tires aren't an issue, unless you get some funked out wheels.

Simple route is to call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and let her put together a recommendation for you. If it's out of your budget target, you can always shop for used parts, save more money, or go with a mix of used/new.

One simple way for a bit of lift is tires. My tires are 2" in dia larger than OE, so I got a 1" lift 'free'. I had no clearance/rubbing issues on stock wheels.

Use the tire calculator to play around with that a little. If you find a size that seems reasonable, you can do some fitment research. Since this appears to be mainly a light duty street truck, you might want to focus on P rated street tread. Costco is a good source for Michelin and Bridgestone if you are a member.

An AAL on a 250k leaf pack is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. Since you're planning on keeping this truck for a long time, a decent leaf pack will be your best bet. The factory leafs aren't known for being that great to begin with. Add 250k miles and you've got yourself a dead horse. :deadhorse:
