you can do it either way. since when i press the horn, it turns on a small compressor, i had to upgrade the stock fuse (5 or 10 amps, can't remember) to a 30 amp fuse.

i'd reccomend that if you get a really loud set, you should wire it to a seperate momentary switch. that wat a simple horn tap for when the light turns green doesn't give everyone around you a heart attack.

I did not run separate wiring for mine. I just unplugged the OEM horns, extended the hot wire from the OEM horn to the new horn compressor and then grounded the compressor to the chassi under the hood.

If you use a crimp on style blade (male) connector, it will slip right into the slot that the OEM horn connected too. No need to cut the wiring harness to make this work.

    Hope that made sense.

I've done so many mods to this truck it turned out to be a Dodge Ram 2500! WOW was that expensive!!
What kind of horns would you need to sound like a tractor trailer (18 wheeler)? I heard one several years ago on a full pick up and thought it was a very large truck. That's how I would like for my taco to sound like.
