2010 Tacoma suddenly has cruise control, and possible throttle, issues

    Hello everyone!

So my 2010 tacoma's (4.0, 4x4) cruise control suddenly became very sensitive to bumps in the road on my drive to work. Normally it only turns off if I hit a large bump but it started turning off on relatively minor bumps (like a road to bridge transition) that I've had no problems with for 3 years. It also *seems* like the throttle would go out on bumps unless I took my foot off the gas and then press down again... But I was becoming very sensitive to any speed/throttle changes and pressing down on the pedal was the only way to get the cruise control to reengage (without resorting to turning it off and resetting the speed). Later on the cruise control would not take a set speed. The light works for the cruise control and the CEL is not on. The only change I made recently was swapping my winter tires for all seasons (done at home).

I'm guessing I need to clean/replace the throttle position sensor...possible clean the MAF... but I would appreciate any input

Check your brake switch adjustment at the brake pedal. If a bump causes the brake pedal to touch the switch, the cruise shuts off.

Yeah it seems as though my brake pedal itself has a little too much play...and perhaps the switch is a little too sensitive. Thanks for the advice!
