Priced out a 2017 DC TRD OR yesterday with a 6-speed manual. Almost all the trucks on the lot had the JBL sound (subwoofer behind rear seat, little orange JBL logo on radio.) The truck I want does not. It has a sunroof, heated seats, window sticker says premium and tech package. Looked at the window sticker on a Auto transmission truck and it says "JBL radio (auto only)" Why on earth is it not available on the manual trans truck?

There are a couple extra things on the Auto, not sure why we cannot get certain things.

Use the same money and you can build something that sounds much better than the JBL system.

    ^^^^ This ^^^^

I do find it strange they won't install it on a manual transmission still.

I think that they goal-seek their option packages to a profit margin target. Toyota knows that manual buyers are going to buy manuals, no matter what options you make available. Might as well save a nickel where they can. It was a non-issue for me, as I didn't want a sunroof or more things beeping at me. Digital dual zone climate control was the only thing I really cared about, and it hasn't been a big deal adjusting to life without it. After some of my challenges with blend door actuators in past trucks, maybe it was a blessing in disguise. I installed aftermarket speakers, amp, and sub. My setup blows away the factory JBL package.

Is what it is. I wanted the JBL but couldn't get it. In the end I'm glad because I opted for the OEM Audio+ kit. It blows the JBL system out of the water but is admittedly twice the price so

appreciate the feedback guys. Toyota has always done weird stuff options wise. I always hated that the sub took up rear cargo room in my 2009, I will prolly just upgrade the speakers and move on.

For the same ID10Tic reason you can't get the manual transmission with the Long Bed, or in the Blazing Blue color - because aliens don't wear hats. Utter stupidity, that's all.

Before I had my 2016, I had a 2010 TRD sport DCSB 6MT with the JBL. Apparently they quit putting the JBL system in the 6 MT around 2012.

How much did the kit cost without installation? How good do you think it sounds over stock audio?

I installed the OEM Audio + in my MT taco as well and is well worth the price of admission in my opinion.

I saw the video. It looks like a very nice setup. You installed yourself I'm assuming? How long did it take?

Better part of a day. Wanna say I started around 10am and didn't finish till the sun was going down but I did take an hour lunch break, ha. You could do it fast if you had to but I was in no hurry and didn't want to break any clips. Plan for at least 5 hours to get it done.

In my most recently owned Taco I did not have JBL. I really wanted to keep the OEM look but didn't find anything that would leave the truck looking factory while providing the bang for the buck. I really like the look of those quoted above. Where were you guys then?!?! :)

So once install is complete, other than the amp & sub, are there any differences in appearence? So there's no cutting or extended speaker grills etc?

Gotta say having had a 2017 DCSB with JBL a few days just two weeks ago I was unimpressed with the sound quality. It's an upgrade over the base unit but not nearly the clarity or thump I had expected coming out of a JBL equipped T4R.

Appearance wise it looks completely stock. The only way you could even tell it's been installed is to look under the front seat or behind the rear seat. You do have to drill a 1" hole in the side of the plastic cubby that the sub box sits in to get the wires to it.

The cab in mine looks completely stock. The only way to tell is look behind the rear seat, where I installed the amp and subs. All speakers fit in factory locations, mounted into hardwood speaker mounts. I used sound dampener behind all of the door panels as well. It sounds incredible.

Sorry to necro a thread...but didn't even realize this was a thing until now. Is the JBL system a stock option or does that come with Premium and Tech on an auto? I actually don't mind my sound system as is.

Pretty sure it only comes with premium and tech packages and on all limiteds. I dont mind the stock speakers at all, much better then my previous truck(ranger)

My buddy on the other hand hates his stock speakers in his 19 off road.
