I'm looking at the ARE shells not sure which series to look at. I'm looking at using a Front Runner Rack and one of the CVT "Type" tents. Which series/shell should I be looking at to be able to handle the weight and sleeping on it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My apologies if this has been asked already. I did a search but I'm probably just a dumb newb and couldn't find anything.

I've seen people do it with success, but from the info I gather, most fiber glass shell has a weight capacity 150lbs unless it's reinforce like Leer RCC. Maybe it would depends on how you distribute the tent weight and how the tent is supported when it's set? ( ladder support half the weight? )

    ARE HD series

I biggest concern is the weight part but then I see people using the Z series and the CX series and wondering how it handles the weight.

Better place to ask, just more topic specific: http://forum.expeditionportal.com/forums/138-Roof-Top-Tents-and-Awnings
Short answer is that folks have been using the regular shells to carry their tents without too much trouble as long as the rack is mounted well but it's not recommended (especially if you're big or going to be very active up there); using the tracks helps distribute the weight some. Most folks recommend the heavy duty, reinforced shells if you're going to put that much weight up there. Several manufacturers make them.
