I do machine work for 16 stages of compressor wheels on the compressor side of the turbine....and 3 stages on the turbine side. Plus spacers, afts, fwds, and anything in between. It's a machining process that helps mat 2 parts together.

potentially, but I'm not sure. when I was working on the design of this plant, it was for another segment of the facility. things happen and people quit though, so even though I didn't have any part of the design, I had to install them. I didn't have anything to do with the controls though. I just had to get them off the barge, heavy hauled to site, installed, and piped up.

A perforating company we supply had a fly wheel come off and crush a fella a year ago.

I'm waiting in one of these 3"x40' bands to pop with me near it and make me look like a bond villain. Best case scenario.

 

I'm the engineer out in the field, so I don't actually touch anything, I just plan it all out, coordinate the work, and run the crew of guys that are actually installing/building the plant, and fix any design issues as they come up (and there have been plenty)

do love me some crane though. made my last pick with the Liebherr 1750 monster a couple days ago, and had to get a final photo. won't be around anything this big at the new job.....

 

how heavy was the pick? thats a big bitch, many counterweights.

 

Sweet. I'm lvl 3 cert. Puts me at about 60 tons although the largest I lift for my job is 18700 lbs.

 

we vary the weight per the lift, but lots and lots.

at one point, we even had to add a "wagon" to the back of the crane to stack even more counterweight.

we have bigger lifts on the job, but this is one of my favorites. had to lift and flip two boiler units. picked and flipped with two cranes, then detatched, and set the unit with the 1750. each boiler unit weighed 380,000 lbs. sounds like a lot, but even with one of those hanging in the air, the 1750 had so much counterweight, that we were over a million lbs biased towards that back. meaning that it was a more of a risk of flipping over backwards than forwards.

me too, i'll miss that part of my job, but the minuses far outweighed the plusses, hence the change.

Ive been looking at axles, I may get a custom width built one, with 6 on 5.5 spindles to run taco wheels. possible trailer build in the future
