Thanks for all the info man it is much appreciated. you had me a little puzzled for a split second there with the mention of the air injection haha luckily I know my truck well enough to know I don't have one haha and by the sounds of it, I'm glad I don't hahaha

Yea, definitely a benefit not to have them!
Install should be a lot quicker without them.
They don't seem like much but they block a lot of the easy access to the header bolts.
There's not much room in the engine bay to start with on these tacos
Not trying to scare anyone just telling them what NOT to do if you have the 2012+ air injection system, lesson learned

Also, some copper antiseize will be beneficial to the hardware, during install. Not necessary, but beneficial.

hey dudes great thred...haven't posted a lot on here so still testing the waters but I have a situation that is probably going to require some exhaust modding and I'm trying to make the best decision... i have a 2011 Tacoma 4x4crew w/ auto trans...bone stock...so my catalytic converter is basically gone bad on the right side, its the one that costs 700...so my choices are replacing the cat, probably shortly followed by the other one or buy a new exhaust (headers and y pipe and cat-back)...looking at the afe twisted tube with y pipe setup ..runnin 1600 bucks...any thoughts or help/advice be huge..thanks

Haven't worked on it yet. I'll be headed to my buddies house to work on it a few weekends from now. Its killing me that they are just sitting there but I have to be patient. I'll post pix of install and also take before and after video of sound and power as well.

    UPDATE:

This isn't a build thread but there are some important things to be noted that I ran into while completing the install. Also sharing some pix, before and after videos of sound so those of you who were in my shoes know what you are getting before you decide to upgrade since this isn't cheap.

To start off why the upgrade? I personally wanted more low end and mid range torque since I tow (my toys RZR & atv's) a decent amount and I live deep in the Rocky Mountains. I have 7% grades to climb constantly so any added HP increase also helps. The throaty sound is just an added bonus.

I decided to do the install with an experienced mechanic buddy of mine because most if not all shops I spoke with quoted a 2 day install (8 hours each day) so it would have cost me nearly $2k which is almost the cost of just the parts...No way in Hell!!! Also most other shops straight up declined to do the work as they don't want to warranty it due to their experience of continual leaks with headers and they'd want the headache. Well after hearing that I wouldn't want them to install it if they aren't confident in their skills!

We had to make a few alterations in order for a solid install even though this set up is made specifically for my taco. Although aFe claims that you have every part you need for install, you don't!! I would recommend if you are going to do the same set up you take these considerations into your install. This isn't a knock on aFe as I love their products. Maybe aFe feels that some parts can just be reused to save $ IDK.

Things to consider when installing is how old your tacoma is at time of upgrade? Mine is 08 with 95k miles so I opted for all new hardware, gaskets, seals etc... to be on safe side to prevent any leaks. If I would've done it years ago maybe I could've reused all original hardware like aFe suggested.

    Things to note:
    1) You'll need new header gaskets! If you are spending this kind of $ then spend a few more bucks for new gaskets.
    2) You'll need new donut ring/seal where y-pipe and muffler extension meet (see pic of old one deteriorating)
