I have discovered that there is not an option for digital speed on the center information screen. Deal breaker. Odd that my Tacoma has it and not the Highlander.

Because every car I have owned for the last 10 years has had it and it is a feature we really like. I just find in odd that basically every toyota has it. Even my '16 Tacoma ha it. Yet this "loaded" Limited does not.

Tacoma is badass truck for strong badass men. Highlander is very feminine for housewives.

I was thinking about trading in our 2001 Highlander for a 2017 Highlander. But now that i have learned that it won't display the digital speed. maybe I will have to wait until 2018 to see if they add that very important feature.

This caught my interest, so I did a little research.
This is info from toyota.com, straight from the brochure for the 2016 and 2017.
Seems the 16 it was there in the XLE and up, and for 2017 its only there in the Hybrids.

I'm sure it's like the Tacoma where you can set it in the settings. If not who really cares.

I own a 3rd gen and also a 2015 Toyota Highlander (my wife's vehicle). We have a 3.5 year old and another on the way. We love the Highlander. It's the XLE version. The new update has some pretty cool bells and whistles. I think the whole "over the top" camera view is pretty interesting. I know the 2017's also have a bit more pep in the engine than the 2014-2016 which, honestly, it didn't need. Our 2015 Highlander has plenty of power and gets going in a hurry. Love the Highlander for the family duties (build-in sun shades for the back windows??? I was sold when I saw that). However, I prefer my manual 2017 TRD Pro. It's more fun to drive and it's a truck. Two things that I'm all about. The Highlander is a great family vehicle and if I had to do it again, I'd just buy another one.

Oh, also... not having the digital speed on our 2015 XLE was pretty strange and a bummer. I was happy to see it on my 2017 Taco but was surprised it wasn't on our 2015 XLE.

The Highlander in a also a unibody vs the 4runner being body on frame, so if it's just a road vehicle you're looking for the unibody might ride a bit smoother.

Also being a Unibody it has a bit more room inside. But if you plan on offroading or towing. I would go with a 4Runner.

    Yup.

2017 XLE. Wife loves it. It's got way more shit than I know what to do with. IMG_2878.jpg

I can thank her for buying a Highlander. I wouldn't have a Tacoma if she hadn't got me to a Toyota dealership.

Agreed. We compared the interior of a 4runner and a Highlander when we were buying. The Highlander was much more family friendly with more useable space. We also like the 3rd row that it provides. The only way to add a 3rd row to a 4runner is getting the SR5 model and then they put the 3rd row on a "stage". It's just not as roomy (leg room especially) as the Highlander.

Hey Joe, Kristi still loves her '14 Highlander ... she looked at trading for a new one recently ... but the extra $10K over what we paid for basically the same vehicle 3 yrs ago made her decide to just keep hers. It has 35K on the clock now with no issues, other than it seems to be a rock magnet as we've replaced 3 windshields ... but this is still Alaska, so that's probably more a factor for the rocks. ;)

My parents bought a 2016 Highlander right after I bought my new tacoma. They love it! I've driven it a few times and it rides really nice. The back seat space is incredible and it's pretty comfortable. If you need a family rig, this would be a good option IMO.

I have a 2012 Tacoma and the wife has a 2016 Highlander and truthfully the Tacoma is better for hauling dirty stuff, towing and off-roading otherwise the Highlander is hands down better in every other aspect (mpg, drive ability, comfort, room). I feel the two vehicles compliment each other in my family. My brother in law has a 2017 4Runner which is a great truck but it shares a lot of characteristics with the Tacoma (much better ride comfort but still similar). I would either drive the Tacoma or 4Runner and give the wife a highlander. I tow a few thousand miles a year and prefer the Taco. And the Highlander is great for the long trips...

We love ours! We bought it in Mar and have close to 4k miles on it. We ended up going with the SE over the XLE and limited mainly due to the rims and the the blacked out grill. The SE has a sportier tuned suspension, and other little things as well. Red stitching on seats, captain chair rear seats, etc. I read somewhere they are not making a whole lot of the SE's as well.

Honestly...I enjoy driving the highlander more than my Tacoma.
Its smoother, seats are more comfortable, ride is quieter, sound is better, I just love the thing.

I LOVE some of the Toyota Safety features, especially the radar cruise control.

The dealbreaker for me was no digital speed readout but the wife decided otherwise. (What was she thinking!?!?).
