Hey I'm about to put some Icon control arms and coilovers on my first gen. It has a lot of miles, like 285..... Should I go ahead and get LCA's with bushings from Rock Auto? Or get white line bushings and press them in myself? Anyone have a preference on lower ball joints? How likely is it that the adjusters will be frozen? I've been hitting them with pb blaster and have a few more days till let's get here to soak them. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks guys!

I just replaced my upper/lower control arm bushings with energy suspension and I am very pleased. I did it about 3 weeks ago. I only had one adjuster that the actual bolt was frozen. I used a 1/2" deWalt impact and beat it until it shredded the treads and then knocked it out with a punch. That was really my only issue. I reused the 3 other original adjusters. I also replaced all of my ball joints with aftermarket 555 made in Japan and have been pleased. Some swear you have to use OEM for lower ball joints, but I have replaced mine twice with aftermarket and never had an issue. I would just make sure to go with a made in Japan ball joint. If you do lots of Off-roading I would probably go OEM, but for mostly road use the aftermarket 555 seem fine.

I'm working through this job now - full suspension refresh, all rubber is being replaced. Just take care of it all while you're in there as your bushings / LBJs are probably shot. I wheel my truck pretty often, have 140k and live in the North East so there has been a lot of cutting to do.

If your alignment cams are half as seized up as mine were, have a quality carbide sawzall blade on hand. Cut the control arm close to the bushing and then cut the pins going through the bushing itself.
