    Hi members,

Time to buy a first and use car for daughter. I have questions about title status and hope somebody can give me some info about them. Should I consider/not about "Salvage and Rebuild" titles?
Please state the diff. of the two titles, pros and cons. I know both involved in accident,, but nothing more. Thanks in advance.

You should only consider them at a huge discount in most cases. Ask what caused it to be totaled and use common sense. If it seems reasonable to have been repaired to acceptable standards it may be ok. I'd personally avoid most salvage titles. My one exception would be purely cosmetic things.

Correction to previous, Google bot told me I'm was wrong. It seems salvage means it was never repaired and rebuilt means it has been. Might be an insurability difference. For example my little sister has a fusion that got hailed out and totaled for it. Salvage title and she can't run anything but liability on it.

Each State has it`s own way to classify these vehicles .

Listen to what people in your state and where you might buy a vehicle from.

I have no problems buying any vehicle with a salvage title or reconstructed title .

Just about every vehicle but my Tacoma was titled that way

Make sure your insurance carrier will write a salvage.

If a bank is involved, same thing.

Salvage is typically about 50% of provate party, both when you buy it and when you sell it.

Now because all my vehicles are paid for and the newest is 17 years old I never carried Collision but carry Comp and very good Liability never heard a question from the Insurance company about titles .

Once a vehicle is sold to a yard for any reason and the title processed it is now a Salvage title

I bought a 83 Celica that was sold to a Yard for a failed clutch slave cylinder

Then laws get changed all the time to make things easier for a politicians kid to keep from getting arrested every few days

They don't have to ask. When they run the VIN via the State registry everything shows up about the vehicle, title and you.

If they don't write salvage titles for whatever coverage you are seeking, they'll just decline.

All I'm suggesting is calling in advance of purchase and asking, rather than being surprised later.

Here in Texas, i got my tacoma at auction with a salvaged title. Insurance of the previous owner declared the hail damage worth more than the truck. It is a 2011 super white and i got it with 97k on the clock. Impeccable condition, very well kept. We got it for 8k and spent about 2k on hail damage and it truly looks amazing. If you can, stay away from the ones with a bad accident because it could lead to frame damage. Hail is the best bet in my opinion, if you can get it for a great deal and spend a little extra to fix it up, you will at least know there is no severe damage other than potentially with the engine. Best of luck

Not if you're ever thinking of selling the car in the future. It can make things a huge hassle. Ask how I know...
