LEAVE NOW!!! don't turn back. Leave. Run. Quickly, as far as you can.

After we bought the truck, we drove it for a few days. Thought it was GREAT, so we took it on a 900 mile round trip trek about 4 days later. It was great. great off roading through the mountains and forests of western PA and southwest PA. We had a really good time. shifts were great, no noise. Awesome truck.

THEN, I came on here to see how/where to grease my zerks. THEN, I started to notice the trans shifting funny (fixed with update and runs great). THEN, I heard the whistles at 30-40 mph (fixed with some aluminum duct work tape, lowes/HD/Dealer take too long to get to). THEN, I heard the howl at 55-65 (guess I'll take that in to the dealer at some point).

It's this site. Nothing happens until you come here to see how to take care of a little maintenance issue. Then, through some weird poltergeist shit, the spooks come through your IP, to your house, and into your truck. It possesses it to keep you on this forum. To keep looking to see why it's doing what it's doing, and to see what's next.

Don't ever come back. leave while you can. Take another road trip so the TW demons can't locate you and make things squeel, whistle, and howl. Go.

LOL... It does seem like you don't notice any of this stuff until you hear so many people complaining about it.

Great road trip write up OP. Are you sure you want to put spacers on? Your TRD wheels look like they are already pushing your tires out a nice bit.

My trans actually seemed to get better, much better actually after about 1000 miles... I'm a bit over 3500 now I think and though it still hunts from time to time, I have learned when where to set the cruise control so it doesn't hunt (usually 70 and under depending on terrain). regardless of how many people here bitch about it... it's still not the majority of Tacoma owners. not saying it's not a valid concern... it's just people jump on forums and think because they've seen a bunch of threads about it or a 100+ posts about it, that must mean every truck has this problem. I'd venture a guess that we represent about 1% of the Tacoma market, we are enthusiasts, meaning we are the ones who pay attention to every noise, rattle, and vibration, but sometimes we're a little too sensitive to that.

Almost 8000 miles on mine so far and absolutely zero issues.

Glad you had a good trip to the OBX! You did it right and got there before the crowds get insane!

I second @Harvo the wheels/tires look good as is...are you sure you want to push them out that much further?

Just because you had issues doesn't mean every truck is just like yours. You just can't seem to accept that others trucks drive just fine.

I'd ignore that $hitty99 guy, with all the voices he hears on his head, he throws them on the forum and pollutes every good post with his delusions, incompetent driving, or just right down bad maintenance know-how.

20k miles here and i don't hear anything that shouldn't be normal on a running vehicle.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Forgot to mention that my buddy and his wife followed me down in their 2016 limited Tacoma which has 25k miles. His is running like a champ. No issues.

Aren't you the same guy that said transmissions DID NOT come with low fluid AND that the U-joints don't need greased? ROFL sounds like you have " bad maintenance know-how " of your own.

I could go and use the search function but I'm lazy today.....

Is the rear diff howl/hum an AT thing or do people that have MT and the 4.30 in the rear have it too?

My guess it's an 8.75" problem.

Literally the only thing that bothers me.

Big smile every time I drive it.

I appreciate all the opinions on here though. Pos/neg alike.

    Just need a thick skin.

    Also sweet write up OP!

One of these weekends I have off, I'd like to go test drive a 3rd gen manual just to compare to my 2nd gen and satisfy my curiosity.
