Does the bestop or softopper for 2nd gen fit 3rd gen?

I'm in the market for a soft shell top and I'd like to save $$ buying used.

 

nevermind. I just checked their website and they use the same part# for a '15 and '17.

I'll probably call them to confirm.

 

All my research pointed to yes, I will know for sure in the coming weeks as it's it's getting warm enough for me to screw with my besttop.

I have the opposite question. Will a Softopper for a 3rd gen fit a 2nd gen? I've read there may be a difference in height between the two. Still waiting to hear back from Softopper.

 

any word back yet, I didn't think either soft top or best top changed anything.

 

According to the guy I just spoke to at Softopper, they use the same canvas and frame for both 2nd and 3rd Gen. The only difference is they put a slightly longer rear door panel on the 3rd gen model in order to account for the wider tailgate. Otherwise they are the same.

In his words, 'the 3rd gen topper would work on a 2nd gen truck, the rear panel would just hang lower on the tailgate. The 2nd gen topper probably would not ideal on a 3rd gen truck as the rear panel may not extend far enough to fit properly.'

My take...if you can score a good deal on a cross gen model topper and can live with a slightly imperfect fit, they will work with one another. If you want the fit to be as spot on as possible, pony up for brand new or be patient and wait for a used one in the right configuration for you.

No. I have a 2nd gen truck. I'm just in the market to purchase a softopper and potentially sell my hard top.

 

ok just a follow up. The current Bestop does not "fit" the 3rd gen properly. It can work, but needs a little tweaking. I contacted Bestop and they have not made any changes to accommodate the 3rd gens, Softopper has released a 3rd gen version.
