I'm going to be flying into Anchorage in the middle of June and am seeking info on cool places to visit. We plan on visiting Denali national park on one of the days. Looking for anything from places within Denali, glaciers, cool hikes, good food. I've also read that the northern lights will be hard to see during this time of year.

    Thanks!

Whittier has good glacier tours same with Seward - only a couple hour drive from Anchorage. Definitely too much sun during June for northern lights. Good food is easy to find - simon and seaforts is good, moose's tooth is must, chair 3 or 5 whatever it's called in Girdwood - Alyeska is pretty cool to see, they do biking tours during the summer, driving up Hatcher's pass is always fun to do, quite a few trails out that direction.

So much to do. I will probably be back next time around in the taco for a longer stay. Thank you for the suggestions!

Double Musky Inn (restaurant), Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria, Denali bus tour, 26 Glacier Tour, and Premier Alaska Touring does a lot.

All are pretty big staples to an Alaska visit in my opinion. Knik River Lodge is a great place to have your own cabin for the night, right next to the Knik Glacier where some of us like to offroad too. They recently revamped their kitchen and I've been itching to try it again.

    Copied from the meets page.

Saturday May 13 I'm going offroading somewhere... Location tbd. I'm hoping to take a friend from school that wants to get into offroading.

    Anyone want to join?

I'll be mapping whatever trail we go on for trailsoffroad.com too, so I'll be making a video, taking pictures, and recording the GPS data of the trail too.

My list of trails that might be good by then is:
    • Boulder Creek (might be fairly deep with spring melt off still)-Kind of boring once after the creek, trails loop around iirc.
    • Eska Falls (never been myself) guaranteed to be muddy. :mudding:x10 lol
    • Permanente Trail should be good, some muddy spots for sure :mudding:
    • Kings River Trail (never been myself) should be good, probably similar to Permanente with muddy spots.
    • Mt. Baldy B-29 Trail (we have done part of this as a meet before, but took the wrong turn and couldn't get up the hills due to winter conditions and Brandon not airing down and icing over the trail :smack:) This supposedly has a very steep hill climb and will also be muddy in parts, wet in most parts.
All of the Hatcher Pass trails will still be super snowy and closed off, so unless we want to drive to Willow to enter and exit Hatcher Pass (no thanks) those are out.

@300AACTaco you better come on this one, you missed out on the last one!

Well that didn't last long :

    https://fairbanks.craigslist.org/cto/6098880951.html

Also, maybe it's an error but if he actually paid $1800 for those wheels, even if that's installed with TPMS then he got ripped off. Hopefully that was with the tires. It has a spacer lift too and asking 43k

I like how he says after 1 tank of gas he changed air filters and got better mpg. No way that engine was broken in, engine optimized, or computer adjusted to driving habits that quick.

Seriously. Steer clear from that one, at least at that price

It does look nice at least. I parked next to it at Lowes a week or two back. Still would never buy a third gen though.

Had a mini mod day yesterday. I finally made some bump stops for my front end. Realized I dented my oil pan at Knik jumping it lol.

A couple of days ago I rolled up to Sportsmans Warehouse and there was a Friends of the NRA tent set up outside doing a raffle. I was lucky enough to win a $500 gift card good for anything at Sportsmans!

So I'm thinking I need to get a new smoker. Any thoughts on Traeger smokers? What would you guys get for $1000 or less?

Well that is fun. Yesterday I reserved a travel trailer and today I find I have a blown rear shock.
How long should a Bilstein last?
45k, stock and no offroading, I thought they should last a little longer than that.

Should last 60-90k. But sometimes they blow early with all the potholes we have up here.

OME shocks are supposed to be more durable than the cheap Bilsteins.

I suppose that means its a great time to upgrade. I'm looking at 5100's on Amazon right now. With a shell on a long bed, towing a R-Pod would put me overloading OEM 4600's. Although I would normally have waited until we decided if we liked camping to upgrade.

I'd call GTF and look at OME Nitrochargers over 5100s, but GTF probably has both.

OME FTW. Seriously, I beat the shit out of them (at least I'd like to think I do), overload them with camping gear, and tow my boat all summer. But I also have new leaf springs. But the shocks themselves have handled a lot of high speed dirt roads full of potholes and washboard sections with no problem. They soak up so much compared to my stock shocks did.

Lol. I drive like a grandpa...because I'm a grandpa. Wife and I are researching if we want to be RVers in our retirement (almost there).

I just ordered a fridge and a new awning to replace my tiny 4' ARB. Hopefully it all shows up in time to get them setup before the end of May when I want to do some exploring. Still need to find time to install my new front suspension as well.
