I'm so sorry Jordan. I've had to do that three times myself. It never gets easier but time does heal as well as the fact you know you gave your dog a great, comfy, warm and loving life.

The hardest part is convincing myself I did the right thing. I know its easy to say and its easy to understand but then when it happens and I have to make the decision I second guess myself the whole time. Horrible feeling

So sorry Jordan. It totally is the hardest thing to ever do. I had the same thoughts when I had to decide to put Annie down.
Time helps, but there will always be a hole in your heart for your sweet girl. Good luck man. RIP Oreo.

It will get easier. Just a year ago I had to do the same thing to my boxer. Still miss her to this day, but I have 3 others to keep me going.

You 100% made the right decision, and do your best not to second guess yourself. Oreo is no longer in pain, and lived a happy and full life, and you alone are to thank for that. My thoughts are with you :(

    That's a beautiful poem :)

As a fellow dog lover I hurt with you. So hard to get through. It's why I will always have a least two dogs at all times. The pain is a little less brutal with another pooch to comfort you. It's how I got through the loss of Jake the Dawg, 7 years ago. Bear is now 12 and I will be devastated with his passing, when the time comes. Hang in there.

    Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
    Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
    Strength without Insolence,
    Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
    If inscribed over human ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
    Oreo, a DOG

Jordan, do you have other doggies? I didn't when I put down Annie, and it made it extra difficult. I borrowed my parents dog a few times and that seemed to help. The house was just so quiet, it was awful. It took me about 8 months to get over her enough to get another dog. Looking back, I think getting another pup sooner would have helped me cope better, but I just couldn't get over her. She's been gone now for 2 years and 2 months, and I'm still crying as I type this.
Some dogs are just meant to live with us forever.
    God Bless.

No I don't have any dogs right now. I dont know if I ever could again. I know a lot of people say that but it's how I feel right now. Our house is so empty right now. We are just lying in bed with nothing to do, nobody to take care of, nobody to wonder where they are or what they are getting into. It's a sad time. Again thanks to everyone and I'm so glad you guys told me to take lots of pics because I have hundreds and they are amazing from just this last weekend.

Get to a rescue center this weekend and go see some other dogs. You don't have to bring one home but go see them. Seriously.

Yes you are right.....a lot of people say that. But trust me me, In time...and you'll know when it is you guys will have another one...or two. It wont be a replacement for Oreo, nothing will. It will just be a new dog to love.. Like GT said as well, get to the shelter when you can. It may indeed help.

It took me over 20 yrs and now I regret that I wasted all that time not having a dog. You need to take a leap of faith and get a dog immediately. IMO, speaking from experience.

@maxpower29 my sincere condolences. I've put 2 down and bawled like a baby for many days, it'll get better. Never forget the memories you have.

Here's some from our trip out to Calico Ghost Town this weekend. High 80's during the daytime had this 8 year old boxer panting pretty hard, she finished 1 whole gallon of water per day out on the trails, glad I had the Bestop canopy up with no windows, all shade & breeze back there for her.

    RIP Oreo.

Jordan, as a way to honor Oreo ( I know you'd never be able to forget her) if you aren't ready to adopt a pup, how about being a foster parent? You can give a homeless dog a home while waiting on a furever home.

When I lost my avatar pup, it took me about 3 months to be ready. Don't know what I'd have done without Annie around to keep the house from being so empty.

It took us three years to get over Isabelle. We still have her ashes. Best dog we ever had.

One day, two years ago, a weird opportunity presented itself to rescue a dog that no one else wanted (she was a biter). She didn't fit in with any other families...and she didn't want anything to do with me (bit the hell out of me more than once). But we were without a dog, and the little girl needed a lot love that only a family could provide. She's still mean as hell, but only because she's protecting us. Anyone inside her "circle of trust" gets all the love she can give, though, and is a supreme cuddle bug for us. Since we rescued her "sister" she's really started coming along, and is getting better with strangers.

It's okay to have your grief - Oreo's life deserves to be honored and celebrated. The pics are a fantastic way to preserve that treasure. One day an opportunity may present itself to bless you and your family with a new fur baby. You'll know when the right time, just be ready for it when happens. Until then, we can still be thankful we were blessed with Oreo (and Isabelle).
