    Hey guys,

I'm planning a camping / off-roading adventure to Zion at the end of April. This will be my first trip to Zion and want to know your suggestions on what places to check out and things I must see while there. I'd like to not camp at your traditional campsite, rather find places that are somewhat off the grid and are accessible via 4x4. All of our vehicles are stock height, have four wheel drive and are equip with all terrain tires, so no crazy rock climbing haha.

Any suggestions and or tips would be greatly appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, Zion is one of the few Utah red rock national parks that has no accessible off-pavement roads. But there's lots of BLM land around Hurricane, Virgin, St George etc and in the Arizona Strip. Gooseberry Mesa and Hurricane Rim areas are awesome. Or go north to Moab. The BLM office in St George is a good resource.

Just visited Zion with the gf a few weeks ago. Stayed at a lodge at zion and then off roaded and camping along the northern rim of the grand canyon the next night. Only about an hour drive to the trailhead. The spot is called Toroweap Overlook and it's a 60 mile off road trail (stock friendly) and highly recommend it. Look into it for sure!

Just was there a few days ago! Gotta do angels landing in Zion, most unreal and sketchy hike I have ever done. The narrows and emerald pools are a must as well!

Angels landing hike to the top is an accomplishment, but only if you don't mind sheer drops from a narrow trail. Take a GoPro if you do it.

    Have fun, it's beautiful!

    Stuff. Also things.
Toroweap is the shit. Totally worth it.

I grew up in St. George, so I got spoiled with lots of time in Zion. As was previously mentioned, there aren't really any off-pavement roads in the park proper. But the Arizona Strip, Cedar Mountain, Smith Mesa, etc. are all great options.

Good luck and have fun. Zion is an amazing place!

There is a campground in the national park, believe it was $30 a night but it fills up quick!

I just drove 10 miles out of the city and set up camp off an off road trail. Save some money

At tuweep, its cheap and there was no one else but you do need a permit ahead of time. It's worth it because it's right on the rim

Anyone going to Zion I would recommend trying the yurt they have there. While it's not rugged camping it was one of the greatest camp trips I've ever had. Look up zion yurts. I'll see if I have any photos. The yurt sleep nine people i think.

Great hike. One of the few trails that goes from easy asphalt to holy shit cliff hanging. It rivals Half Dome in Yosemite for don't lose your grip.

Gooseberry Mesa. Easy to get to and plenty of camp spots all over the Mesa. Approach from the south (easy smooth double track) and you can drop off the other side into Grafton which is a slightly rough 4x4 road. I'd advise against hauling ass as once you pass the Gooseberry turn off, road maintenance is almost non existent with just enough blind corners and tight turns to ruin your day. Its still double track but lack of maintenance makes it a 1.5 wide road. If you look at a map, there are plenty of trails you can drive.

Or hike around Gooseberry to the point.

Here is the junction to go to Gooseberry.

@el_turks hello again buddy we first met in the Anza Borrego thread. I posted a thread similar to this one in the 3rd gen section a coupleish weeks agoand got some real useful tips. I'd link you to it, but I'm lazy and don't know how. Have fun! Take pictures!
