So my 96 has 225,000 miles on it, and when i bought the truck it seemed pretty low in the front compared to every other tacoma ive seen.

Yesterday i had the truck in the garage and i was doing some work, i decided to give a good look under the front of the truck to see if i could see anything that needed attention immediately. i found the bushings in the bottom of the shocks appear as though they are almost non existent. Ive been thinking about buying bilstein 5100s to make the truck level, and now i need to get something moving.

I havent bought the 5100s yet because of money, and i did notice the leaf spring on the passenger side has been replaced already with a dorman spring.

So i found this on CL today

and was wondering if you guys think this would be a good temporary setup until i can spend the money on an all new kit?

The rear leafs will be too long.

Can you replace just the bushings? If the shocks are otherwise still functional, that seems like a better temp solution. That $150 could go toward your 5100s.

parts stores should have new rubbers. Look on the Dorman 'Help' aisle for the right size. I put some on my van as the shocks were still good.

So if I we're to do just front shocks as a whole replacement, what would you suggest for ride quality? The truck will be taken off road very little, and being my daily driver, I'm not terribly concerned about lifting it. Would the 5100s be the best route to go?
