You feel like you gained horsepower from the flash? Enough that you're spinning tires using the same throttle as before the flash?

no gained HP. I think it's just putting the torque down differently from a stop. Has a bit more get up and go in the beginning, but it's not any more torque with things like merging or once I'm actually moving. Wasn't sure what that was all about. Wife did the same thing getting out of the driveway the next day, after she made fun of me the night before for peeling out, so it wasn't just me.

HP gains only come with splitfire sparkplugs and blacked out grill.

You know what? I did put alumni stickers on the window the night before I took it to the shop. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

Imagine how much power you could gain if you paint your rear drums bright yellow!

I realize it is early but very pleased with rev 1 update after 2 weeks. MPG seems to have dropped but blame part of it on winter gas. Truck runs and shifts great now. Now looking for replacement speakers.

Well it was August when I had the tranny flashed and it was good for a while but now I have problems with it holding in 5th gear and not upshifting to 6th on the freeway. If I let off the gas and slow from 80 it takes all the way to70 to upshift. Also when it's cold or has sat a few hours it will have shift flare from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th but only does this intermittently. I called Toyota corp. they gave me a case # and I'm supposed to hear back today.
I spoke to a master service tech at very large dealer in socal and he told me off the record that it needs a new tranny.
    Very frustrating.

It is frustrating, I think thats what we're all experiencing. I think the documentation is the way to go as well as the case # corporate. Does anyone have experience with a toyota buy back or anything along those lines?

I had the Trans rev1 update done last week. It resolved my issues. No more delay from park to reverse or reverse to drive. Is shifts as it should. While pulling our T@B tear drop trailer it holds (4th) gear great while going up hills and I do not get multiple down shifts to (3rd). This will be real nice traveling to Phoenix for Dodger Spring Training!

Update after trans rev1 done. Problems still resolved. No more delays. The trip to Dodger Spring Training in Arizona while pulling our 1640lbs teardrop trailer went perfectly. I did not experience one down shift from 4th to 3rd while towing in "S" mode in 4th. This keep the engine and trans cooler and I didn't experience any spikes in temp. Awesome.

I do have a Scan Gauge installed to monitor my temps.

This is still an issue with the 2017 auto trans. Constant gear hunting on the freeway. hit a little grade and it downshifts 2 gears at least. If you have the A/C on the thing almost never goes into high gear unless you are going slow or downhill. I'm very disappointed with this engine/ trans combo. I had a 2007 PreRunner with the 4.0L engine and auto trans and that thing would run circles around my 2017 off road with he 3.5L auto trans. IF this does not get fixed I sure don't see myself owning it for 10 years like I did my last one.

The problem is that all that downshifting keeps the engine running at high RPM's and that screws with the already poor gas mileage. I'm averaging just over 15 MPG and that is horrendous for a modern vehicle. I got much better mileage in my 4.0L PreRunner.

Humm, I don't know about that. I had a dealer with my last tacoma that loved TSB work - said they made good money on them.

Sorry for the dumb question, is there a data file difference between rev 0. and rev 1 of this TSB? Had rev 0 done last year and wondered if I need to play the game again to get the latest flash for the trans. I see some of the symptoms intermittently.

I had Rev. 0 done last Oct. it is better than without. However I just had Rev. 1 done over the weekend and yes there is a change for the better. I was not too sure to get this done but I did. I would recommend it.

Thanks for the update. I too had rev 0 done before and will go next week for rev 1 with my 1 year checkup.

My dealer never mentioned about tranny fluid level. I had to do it when another dealer told me I had to pay for it. The truck had 5k miles on it. At least I know it is done and I was a little less than 1 qt. low. With rev.1 done I have noticed better shifting, less throttle jerks at stop and go rush hour traffic and better fuel mileage. However I don't have many miles on it since it was reflashed.

Here is a reason to get the software update.

With a background in software development, here is why I say ALWAYS GET THE LATEST UPDATE whether you think you need it or not.

    1. Probably fixes the known public problem they have.

    2. Also fixes another problem that has not been publicly exposed but the company knows about.

    3. Also fixes a new problem that is not known by the entire company but known by only one or two programmers that were afraid to expose it and are now trying to cover it up.

Just a software update tip, from my experience.

PS - Another tip is always ask for the update, else you will not get it.

Use the words "sometimes" and "intermittently" to get around their attempt to replicate the problem. I hate they don't auto apply TSBs... Guess if they did it, then it becomes some form of a RECALL, like a "differential leak" which is obviously expensive and bad PR.
