    285/70/16........=Diameter inches (mm) 31.71
i have 265/75/16 toyo at2 on my pro, 31.6 inches,,, ive turned my wheel both directions and looked at the clearance,,, probably 3 inches left.. now put a 33 in tire on which is 32.8 inches,,, a differance of alittle over an inch,, which is about 5/8 in. bigger per side, sure looks like room for a 32.8 in tire... ill find out soon, purchased a set of pro-sema rims for a second set of tires.. time will tell..altho they are a 17 in rim..

If you go on sites like tire rack you can check the specs and tire diameter. Some 285s run small, and some run larger. Even within the same brand. Seems like KO2s run the small.

    From tire rack:
    BFG AT KO2 285/75/16 diameter 32.8"
    BFG KM2 285/75/16 diameter 33.1"
    Goodyear duratrac 285/75/16 33.1"
    Goodyear MT-R 285/75/16 diameter 33.1"

Not a huge difference, and I'm not sure how accurate these are, but could be the difference between rubbing and not.
    Alignment numbers will matter too.
And in my opinion, I think a meaty 32" MT will look better than a 33" AT.

OP do you plan on off roading (rock terrain) or just the occasional trail? If the occasional trail then go 285/75/16 bc they are a good size that looks normal and at +13 mm off set should give you enough space to clear the stock uca and close enough inwards to have minimal rubbing in certain situations. Rubbing occurs on the outside of the tire edge with the greatest radius. You will get some rubbing reversing backwards while turning on street driving especially reversing into a driveway. If you plan to off road the tire WILL rub the fender and body mount on the tires outside edge when you load the weight of the vehicle on the front end usually going down hill and leveling out when turning. Full lock isnt the issue that causes rubbing. Its when you are at half turns where the radius is the greatest and the body mount is the closes that's why people chop the tips of the body mount and not the entire length. Most people here aren't straying you away from 285/75/16 but just want you to be an informed owner that understands all the possible complications. Another point no ones made a comment on is normal driving with the bed loaded to capacity could pose rubbing on normal street driving.

Honestly I would go wit 285/75/16 bc they look damn good on the truck unless your like me the second I had them on I was like damn should have gone 315 or at least 295. Trimming is minimal to cut the fenders. Tape off the section of rubbing and use a dremal will solve most of the rubbing problems.

Thank you for your detailed answer.

I have no chance of off-roading really as I live in Southern Florida. we don't have snow or hills in this part of country. It is for look but I don't want to lose practicality if we ever venture somewhere that we might try back-country road.

    Thanks

NPD and inflated egos also cause these types of answers. No hate on most Pro owners at all.

I never intended this post to be inflamed in hate and tit for tat. I simply asked a question and I happened to have a TRD Pro.

    Love for everyone.

I've yet to come across a post where a TRD pro owner doesn't get flamed for asking a question.
Maybe I haven't seen enough threads...

Have you seen any thread on TW about tire size that doesn't get flamed in some fashion?? Or any question about anything on TW that's doesn't get flamed????

To think it's just pro owners is profiling!

How do you guys think of Nitto Trail Grappler at 265/75R16 or 285/70R16. it is made by Toyo.would this be a better choice for tacoma instead of Toyo M/T 285/75R16. It is narrower.

Check out the falken wildpeak AT. Currently running them and really impressed and I'm really critical when it comes to tires.

I wheel it quick a bit and do a fair amount of on road. Best of both worlds IMO.

I should have general grabber x3 on next weekend. I'll post up a review of mpg loss and measure road noise before hand.

Hope they do you better than the grabber red labels...

Don't get me wrong, a bad ass tire off-road. Probably the best I've had. But terrible onroad.

Usually all tires are not terrible on road noise when new. It's when they get old they show their true colors. The red labels were noisy from day one tho.

I think we are talking about the same tire. X3 comes in white or red lettering.

    Nooo.
    This is red label(original Grabber)
    IMG_1147.png

    This is x3
    IMG_1148.jpg

Yes both have red lettering...but very different tires. Arguably the Grabber is a better off-road tire because that's what's it's made to do. Kick ass and take names off-road. And it's damn good at it.

Pardon my ignorance but what makes the TRD pro so drastically different that tire fitment is different. I'm actually curious about the trim difference.

Cosmetic mostly. Improved suspension and leather seats. Different badges, fake hood scoop. Different grill and "rigid" fog lights

The pro sits higher in the front..not sure by the exact amount to make it more level due to the suspension. The trd pro wheels may have a different offset than the other trim levels.

The track of the front and rear of a trd off road is 63/63.2 while the trd pro has 64/64 thus making it have a wider stance.

Trd off road approach, departure, breakover angle is 32.0/23.5/21.0

Trd pro is 35.0/19.1/23...so wouldn't that mean the trd pro is 3 inches higher in the front than the trd off road? These are according to toyotas website comparing a dcsb trd or 4x4 auto and dcsb trd pro 4x4 auto.

Nope Pro sits the same been measured and verified by other Pro owners here. Myth.

I'm just reading the specs according to toyotas website...i never said the ground clearance was different. They both have 9.4 inches. I doubt toyota would make up those approach numbers, you could read it for yourself.
